Meaghan Cooper: The Girl Behind the Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff Split

Former bartender, Hooters calendar girl, aspiring rock star and reality television star, Meaghan Cooper, is being blamed for the break up of Mario Lopez and his “Dancing with the Stars” partner Karina Smirnoff.

Pictures of Cooper and Lopez partying together surfaced last June and also appeared on Meaghan’s Myspace page, which she says she removed at Mario’s request.

Cooper says she has been dating Lopez for the past 11 months, and claimed last year in an interview with The Enquirer that he told her his relationship with Smirnoff was over.

“He said he broke up with her. If he’s still seeing her, he said it’s because he’s just trying to keep things ‘cordial’ between them because of the dancing show. I wouldn’t be parading around with him if he was still with Karina.”

Also in the interview, Cooper said she was hoping to attend the wedding of Eva Longoria and Tony Parker with Lopez:

“He’s been friends with Eva for 20 years, and I’m friends with Tony. So if he asks me to go to the wedding, I would,” however she insists she doesn’t think Mario is one to settle down – with her or any other woman, explaining, “I would never get serious with him because he has a history of not being real faithful.”

The 22-year-old native Texan from San Antonio is a contestant on the upcoming ABC reality show “I Survived a Japanese Game Show,” which recently wrapped in Tokyo.

“After I returned from filming he started acting really weird,” she said. “Right now we aren’t talking, and I won’t return his calls.”

A rep for Smirnoff said that this is obviously a difficult time for her but she is focusing on some very exciting opportunities in her professional life and dealing with the situation as best she can.

Mario Lopez and Karina Smirnoff are no longer denying reports that they have ended their relationship. The dancing duo began dating shortly after being paired up on the hit show Dancing With the Stars in 2006.

Karina took the opportunity to announce her single status on the red carpet last night at the A-List Bravo Awards and told OK! that:

I just wouldn’t be a great girlfriend right now, Mario’s a great guy.”

As for Mario’s schedule, he told OK! that he wouldn’t have a free day until September. It sounds like he is pushing it to the limit with his role on Broadway in A Chorus Line, promoting his new fitness book and getting ready for a second season of America’s Next Dance Crew.

Karina was questioned on her relationship status with Mario recently when she was seen hanging out with E! personality, Michael Yo at an event at the Hollywood eatery Beso.

Mario Lopez’s has just launched his new book Knockout Fitness with a promotional tour. The Hollywood celebrity will be zig zagging across the country signing books and spreading the word about his passion for fitness.

The 34 year old has had a 20 year career in show business, including a 6 month stint on The Bold and the Beautiful soap opera. He had a two week marriage to Ali Landry annulled for reportedly engaging in infidelities the week prior to the wedding, amid rumors that his is gay.

Lopez and professional dance partner Karina Smirnoff took second place on the third season of Dancing with the Stars, losing to NFL player Emmitt Smith. Just last month he took on the Broadway role of Zach in A Chorus Line. He will be replaced by an understudy for the next few weeks in order to fulfill his obligation to his book publisher.

Lopez has been appearing in bookstores for the past few days and will be in Corte Madera, California on Monday, Chicago on Tuesday and Mall of America in Minneapolis on Wednesday. Then he takes a week off before hitting the road once again.

Barnes and Noble, Amazon or Borders are all carrying the book in stores and online.
