What started out as a summer romance for Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps and model Megan Rossee has apparently run its course and ended in a split.

It was during the 2012 London Games in late July that the world first learned about Phelps’ new love interest.

Rossee posted a Twitter photo that showed her leaning affectionately on his shoulder with her arm entwined in his as he clutched a slew of Olympic swimming medals.

Though they have not publicly acknowledged the split, they each tweeted messages that strongly suggest they have gone their separate ways.

The 27-year-old uber-athlete wrote, “Things happen for a reason #notme.”

She tweeted an image of a quote by an unidentified source, “A woman’s loyalty is tested when her man has nothing.  A man’s loyalty is tested when he has everything.”

Along with the sage words of wisdom she tweeted, “Yep.”

Phelps didn’t reveal on Twitter how he rang in 2013 but its no secret that he loves Sin City.   The breakup didn’t spoil his ex-girlfriend’s New Year’s Eve celebration.

She posted what appeared to be a Girls Night Out photo that she captioned, “The love of my life is the love between friends.  Happy New Year! #truelove #bffs.”

It looks like TMZ got it wrong when they reported earlier this weekend that Olympic swimming champ Michael Phelps won big in Sin City.

Word spread quickly that Phelps cashed in at Caesar’s Palace after winning $100k during a cash poker game.

Phelps hit Twitter Sunday night to set the record straight with this response:

Everybody loves a winner…. unfortunately this particular claim turned out to be nothing more than one of those crazy rumors that we all latched onto with a vengeance.

What does one do after winning 6 Olympic medals in London? If one happens to be Michael Phelps, he gallivants around the globe with his buddies playing high stakes poker, culminating in a $100,000 win in a single Vegas game.

Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time with 22 medals (18 of those gold), reportedly plunged into poker much like he does the pool — he’s all in.

The 27-year-old swimmer, who has been touring the world with his buddies since his retirement, started out in Maldives, and ended up in Las Vegas last weekend, walking away with $100,000 at a cash poker game at Caesar’s Palace.

“I’ve met some of my best friends at a poker table. Some of the kids I’m always with, who I talk to every day,” Phelps recently told another card player.

Starting out dabbling at the $1 to $2 level, Phelps reportedly now buys in to a weekly $25,000 game.

Phelps, who has a $45 million bankroll to play with, apparently approaches poker with the same determination he did swimming, and has been tutored by a number of poker mentors, including Doyle Brunson.

“I love to play, it’s fun, it’s exciting. It was more something so that I could have time to myself. I could relax, I could be myself, and I could have fun.  It’s a place where I can be me.”

Michael Phelps, the most-decorated Olympian of all time, has secretly been dating Megan Rossee for the past six months.

The pair reportedly hooked up in January at the Hollywood nightclub where she works and Phelps has been quietly dating the Los Angeles based aspiring model and actress.

She accompanied him to the trials in Omaha and was on hand to witness his historic feat at the London Games.  They finally went public with their relationship while partying Sunday night at a London nightclub.

In a Twitter shout-out to acknowledge her boyfriend’s record-breaking performance and prove to the world that she’s with him, Rossee, 25, posted a photo and tweeted, “Yay Michael.”

The athlete, 27, decided to keep the relationship a secret until after he had finished competing.  She went out on a limb with a Twitter tease before one of his London race events, “@MichaelPhelps this probably will get lost in your tweets but since I can’t text you I miss you and can’t wait to spend time with you for real xo.”

Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps, driving a late model Cadillac Escalade, was involved in a traffic accident in Baltimore last night at the intersection of Calvert and Biddle Street.  One of the vehicles reportedly went through a red light, causing the two car collision.

The other vehicle involved in the crash was a Honda Accord.  The female driver, Amanda E. Virkus, was taken to Maryland Shock Trauma Center with neck and arm injuries.  She was treated and later released.  Police charged her with failure to obey a red light.

Police questioned Phelps following the crash and allowed him and his two passengers to leave the scene.  Phelps was not given a breathalyzer test, though he did admit that he had consumed a beer approximately one hour prior to the accident.  According to police official Anthony Guglielemi,“There was no need.  He was completely coherent.  He was cooperating with police.  He gave a witness statement as to what occurred.”

Phelps pleaded guilty in 2004 to driving while impaired by alcohol in Wicomico County.  He will be required to go before a judge once again to explain why he was driving with a suspended Michigan drivers license.  According to police officials, his license is no longer valid because he failed to pay an earlier fine – the result of having no proof of insurance.
