Michelle Obama and Prince Harry

Prince Harry was a special guest of Michelle Obama at the White House yesterday, joining the First Lady in the East Room for a Mother’s Day tea party attended by members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

It was the second stop on the 28-year-old on his U.S. tour.  Earlier in the day Harry was accompanied by Sen. John McCain to view an exhibit at the Russell Senate Office Building for one of his charities — landmine clearance group The Halo Trust.  This was a pet project of his mother, the late Princess Diana.

Harry, a helicopter pilot who has served in Afghanistan, will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solider in Arlington National Cemetery, honoring service men and women who died in combat and will also tour Walter Reed Medical Center during the Washington D.C. leg of his journey.

Before heading west he will also tour the Hurricane Sandy destruction on the Jersey Shore.

The Prince will then attend the opening ceremony of the Warrior Games in Denver, Colorado, an event for more than 200 wounded service personnel–where he’ll undoubtedly be cheering on the British team.

Will he stop in Las Vegas?  Not a chance.

Michelle Obama covers Vogue April 2013

First Lady Michelle Obama graces the April 2013 cover and inside pages of Vogue magazine with some decidedly flattering photos captured by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz.

The 49-year-old wife of second term president Barack Obama appears to be feeling a great deal of liberation — or is it simply those amazing bangs that have transformed her entire vibe?  In any case, she looks wonderful!

During a photo shoot that included POTUS, Leibovitz remarked, “There’s a lot of huggin’ going on.  You’re a very different kind of president and First Lady.”

Despite all of obvious obligations associated with residing in the White House, Michelle claims, “Our number-one priority is making sure that our family is whole.”

The president believes they have remained grounded.  “We were pretty much who we are by the time I hit the national scene.  We didn’t grow up and come of age under a spotlight.  We were anonymous folks.  I was a state senator, but nobody knows who a state senator is.  So most of our 30s and 40s were as a typical middle-class family… That really didn’t change until I was 45.  And there is something about having lived a normal life and raised kids.”

White House stomps on tabloid rumor

The White House was quick to squelch a weekend tabloid claim suggesting that Adele and Beyonce have been tapped to perform during a 50th birthday bash for Michelle Obama.

An official told NBC, “This is 100 percent false.  It was fabricated by a British tabloid.”

The Daily Mail reported on Saturday, “America’s first lady will be holding a huge celebrity-packed party for her birthday at the White House next year and, as she adores Adele and Beyonce, she has asked them both to sing.”

The bogus story continued, “Adele has graciously accepted and waived her usual fee for the high-profile private performance.  She will sing a selection of her most-loved hits for the first lady and her friends.”

The First Lady turned 49 on January 17 and joked about her new hairdo during an appearance on ‘The Rachael Ray Show,’ “This is my midlife crisis, the bangs.  I can’t get a sports car.  They won’t let me bungee-jump.  So instead, I cut my bangs.”

Evolution of Mom Dancing

In support of the First Lady’s “Let’s Move” campaign, Jimmy Fallon and Michelle Obama created ‘The Evolution of Mom Dancing’ video.

The decidedly pretty-in-pink Late Show host started things out and was soon joined by MO for a demonstration of the latest cool dance moves.

The pair put their personal spin on Raise the Roof, The Hip Bump, The Sprinkler, Reel It In, Driving the Station Wagon and The Happy Snapper.

They even tried a few ‘Single Ladies’ hand gestures before morphing into a whacked out version of The Electric Slide.   Fallon threw in the towel when Mrs. Obama broke into The Dougie.

Good stuff … check out all of their dance moves below:

Michelle Obama Second Official Portrait

Michelle Obama has a new official portrait that will be prominently displayed on the White House website under the Administration tab that provides her biography data.

The opening details describe the First Lady as “first and foremost, Malia and Sasha’s mom.”

During her husband’s second term in office, the website states, “As First Lady, Mrs. Obama looks forward to continues her work on the issues closest to her heart — supporting military families, helping working women balance career and family, encouraging national service, promoting the arts and art education, and fostering healthy eating and healthy living for children and families across the country.”

Michelle recently celebrated her 49th birthday by changing her hairstyle to a fresher look that incorporated a great looking fringe of bangs.  Check out her “midlife crisis” Skype discussion with Rachael Ray.

For a walk down memory lane, we’ve included the previous official portrait of the First Lady.  Let us know which you prefer.  We think it’s a no-brainer — those bangs seriously rock!

Michelle Obama's first official portrait

The media has pointed out that the presidency ages the nation’s commander-in-chief prematurely.  We’ve included the official portraits of Barack Obama taken at the beginning of his first term and following his second inauguration.  He appears to be holding up well at age 51 — despite the appearance of some grey hair.
