Nicki Minaj to make big screen acting debut

Singer and ‘American Idol’ judge Nicki Minaj has been cast as an “opinionated assistant” in the film ‘The Other Woman.’

Her debut big screen role is a comedy centered on a man engaged in multiple affairs who underestimates his lovers.  When one of them realizes she is not her boyfriend’s primary lover, she teams up with his wife to plot revenge.

Nicki’s high profile co-stars include Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton.

The project will be directed by Nick Cassavetes of ‘The Notebook’ fame, with filming set to begin in May 2013.  The Trinidadian-born rapper will play a law firm assistant.

Minaj, 30, continues to dispute claims that her music lyrics imply she is bisexual.  She said in a recent Vibe interview: “I just embrace all people of all lifestyles and I don’t tell them they are bad people.  But I feel like people always wanna define me and I don’t wanna be defined.”

Nicki Minaj Elle magazine cover

‘American Idol’ judge Nicki Minaj is known for her bright pink lips but switched it up for the April cover of Elle magazine when she opted for an Au natural look.

The cover line reads:  “Nicki Minaj, no wig, no costume, the American Idol diva like you’ve never seen her before.”

She had this to say about her recent make-under photo shoot, “When I saw myself with barely any makeup at, it was such a… like, I’m so, so attached to my pink lipstick, it’s hard. I feel that it’s become a part of me. To go in front of the camera, without pink lips or big ol’ crazy lashes— you know, nothing— I felt naked. It was scary! So this photo shoot was a real accomplishment in my eyes.”

Minaj recalls her difficult school years, “I went through a lot of bullying early on. Girls made my life a living hell. We had come to America from a different country. My brother and I had accents. It was very tough. So I’ve always put up this wall— it was a self-defense mechanism growing up— because I was almost expecting people to attack me. And I still have it. It’s sad.”

Her advice to women: “Even if you’re doing a nine-to-five job, treat yourself like a boss. Not arrogant, but be sure of what you want— and don’t allow people to run anything for you without your knowledge. You want everyone to know, Okay, I can’t play games with her. I have to do right by this woman. That’s what it’s all about.”

She has set high aspirations for herself, “My goal in the beginning was to buy my mother a house. Now I realize, Okay, if I really focus and become a key player in business, then I can build an empire. I’m thinking of a legacy that I can be proud of and wealth that my grandchildren can use to go to college. So world domination— in terms of providing for my family— is absolutely my goal.”

Nicki Minaj American Idol

‘American Idol’ judge Nicki Minaj blamed heavy Los Angeles traffic as her reason for missing the first performance last night featuring the Top 10 contestants.

The ‘Super Bass’ singer totally missed contestant Curtis Finch Jr.’s rendition of ‘I Believe’ inspired by former ‘Idol’ winner Fantasia Barrino. Minaj quietly slipped in during a commercial break.

Host Ryan Seacrest kicked off the night by instructing the audience to keep their enthusiasm going for “3 of your 4 judges who have made it here tonight.”  He added, “I hear she’s seven minutes out and there’s some congestion on the 405 … she  should be here momentarily.”

Randy Jackson chimed in, “I heard it was the 101.” Mariah Carey looked very put out by the whole thing and Keith Urban … well you know him– he just smiled.

Ryan asked the trio of judges: “Which one of you gave Nicki the wrong directions today?  Which one of you drained the fuel from her car?”

Nicki was tweeting while trying to get to the show, “Stuck in traffic *sighs*” followed by “F*** u Malibu!!!!!!!!!!!! *moves to Beverly Hills*.”

Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler suggested during a recent MTV interview that Nicki Minaj doesn’t have what it takes to be an ‘American Idol’ judge.

He said, “You just have to give your opinion.  It wasn’t hard for me, but I would imagine it’s hard for some people, and they need a manager to say ‘Shut the f—k up and give them your opinion.’”

“These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death, you’re not going to get the best out of them.  If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield!  Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best out of him, as we did with Phillip Phillips.  Just saying.”

As you might imagine, Nicki Minaj hit Twitter to rant, “Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet.  I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers.  I haven’t done anything to you.  That’s a racist comment.  You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? Why? Black? Rapper? What? Go f–k yourself and worry about yourself babe.”

She added, “When Steven first went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike.  Called a sell out.  So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge.”

The premiere of ‘American Idol’ season 12 will air on January 16, 2013 on FOX.

During Sunday night’s 40th Anniversary American Music Awards, Nicki Minaj hit the red carpet in a neon gown by Los Angeles based designer Monique Lhuillier.

If you were thinking you’d seen the bold yellow fashion statement previously … you have.  The mermaid-inspired dress was worn by Modern Family star Julie Bowen during the 2012 Primetime Emmy Awards at the end of September.

Bowen’s only accessory was a metallic clutch purse.  The new ‘Idol’ judge added a chunky necklace and matching cocktail ring to complete her look.

Perhaps Nicki was looking for some good karma when she stole Julie’s look.  If that was her intention — it worked because she picked up awards for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album.  Two months ago Julie won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series while sporting the couture look.

Low and behold … it seems the dress was worn in January at the Golden Globe Awards by actress Paula Patton.

We would be remiss if we didn’t ask — which entertainer rocked it best?
