Martha Stewart vs Rachael Ray

Gosh I wish I liked one of these ladies so I could take a stand on the character bashing that Martha Stewart is handing out to Rachael Ray.

Good ole’ Martha spoke with ABC’s Cynthia McFadden and talked a little smack about competing talk show host Ray, stating that she “isn’t good enough” for Stewart’s standards and said, “She’s more of an entertainer, with her bubbly personality, than she is a teacher like me. That’s not what she’s professing to be.”

The comments came on the heels of appearances by each of the women on the other’s show. They were cordial throughout but Rachael was clearly intimidated by the cooking maven.

Ray got her chance to defend herself against Martha and chose to take the high road. Responding to the harsh Martha jabs, she said, “Why would it make me mad? Her skill set is far beyond mine. That’s simply the reality of it.” There is more so be sure to check it out at PopEater.

Martha won this round. Maybe if Ray ever gets a chance to spend a little time in the clink she will harden up a bit and be better able to stand up for herself. We’re just saying….

Rachael Ray to Undergo Throat Surgery

Rachael Ray is an Emmy award winning talk show host who has her fingers in many pots. She has a daily syndicated show Rachael Ray, stars in 30 Minute Meals, Rachael Ray Tasty Travels, has her own wildly popular cookware line, has written a pile of cookbooks and publishes a monthly magazine Every Day With Rachael Ray.

One thing that has been obvious about the cooking superstar and that is the fact that she often sounds like she is hoarse. Several times she has all but squeaked during a live show, and in one segment her guest star did virtually all of the talking. Now we find out that the issue is a benign polyp on her vocal cord that must be surgically removed.

Contrary to rumors that she thought she had throat cancer, Ray says it was never that dire. She indicates that the surgery will be postponed until December, when she will have enough time to recover from the ‘in and out’ procedure. The most difficult part of the process will be the need for her to remain totally silent for a week or so after having the cyst removed.

Rachael indicates that she has had trouble with her voice since she was a child. She finally went to a voice doctor who taught her how to exercise her throat and cautioned her against too much caffeine.

Ray is currently in Italy celebrating her third wedding anniversary with her husband John Cusimano.

We’ve been speculating all summer that Rachael Ray is with child. She and husband John Cusimano were at a charity event for City Harvest in NYC last night. The event, at the Skylight Studio, featured a photography art gallery and sale.

The couple were photographed in multiple poses. In every scenario, she was shielding her midriff with her hand and a purse. We would understand a few pics catching her attractive little handbag but we have concluded that she was, in fact, putting a buffer between the camera and her growing midsection.

Not only has she gained weight around her middle but she has become decidedly buxom – this from the woman who used to wear high necked tops because she wasn’t comfortable showing too much skin. She has obviously gotten over that hang up or has finally found herself in a position to flaunt her fuller figure.

In any case, we believe that the verdict is still out on whether Rachel Ray is pregnant. Even though she did an interview earlier this year indicating that they were not ready to have children, she may be adopting the ‘new’ Hollywood strategy (yes, we know she’s a New Yorker) of keeping everyone guessing until it is so obvious that only a fool wouldn’t have figured it out.

Rachel was in L.A. for the Daytime Emmy Awards earlier this summer and we did a post and provided photos that showed the food maven’s significant weight gain. Check those pics out here.

The once skinny little waif may have just decided to enjoy the fruits of her labor rather than take a tiny bite for the camera. She does seem to enjoy that final segment of her cable TV show 30 Minute Meals – where she gets to dig into her ‘this is what’s for dinner’ feast.

We’ll keep posting photos and we’ll let our viewers decide – just pleasingly plump or in a family way?

Rachael Ray Pregnant? (Photos)

Rachael Ray has been in Los Angeles over the weekend to attend the Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony on Friday night at the famed Kodak Theater. The Rachael Ray Show won the Emmy for Best Talk Show, beating out Ellen DeGeneres, whose morning show had taken the award four years running.

The paparazzi captured the cooking maven on Robertson Boulevard doing some shopping on Saturday with her gorgeous husband John Cusimano, lead singer in the band The Cringe.

Rachael has been putting on some weight over the past few months leading to speculation that the couple are finally expecting their first child. Check out the flowing dress that the television host is wearing in this photo. Her dress from Friday night was more form fitting but not clingy. She appears to be more curvaceous that she used to be – that’s for sure.

Another explanation might be that she is doing more than tasting all of her culinary creations. We’ll keep a watchful eye on things and keep our viewers posted. In the meantime, check out the good looking couple doing some L.A. shopping below.

The star has been on hiatus from her show this month. It should be interesting to see what she has to say when she returns from her time off.

Rachel Ray may have been the most surprised nominee of all at the 35th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday night. She beat out four time winner, Ellen DeGeneres for the Best Talk Show. DeGeneres is still riding high with her fifth win in the Best Talk Show Host category.

The quirky talk show host is driven by an ambition that seems boundless. How she gets it all done is a mystery. Her other wildly successful ventures include her 30 Minute Meals, Rachael Ray’s Tasty Travels on $40 a day and her magazine Every Day With Rachael Ray. She also has four of the top 10 best selling cookbooks – another lucrative venture for the multimedia queen. We can’t forget about her cookware which is featured in kitchen shops across the nation.

Part of Ray’s appeal seems to be her no nonsense approach to cooking. She knows her way around the supermarket and got her start doing live cooking demonstrations in that venue. She did stints as both manager and buyer for Manhattan grocer Agata & Valentina. Prior to that, she worked the candy counter at Macy’s and even did a teenage stint at a soda fountain.

The recipes dished up by Ray aren’t of the haute cuisine variety. She sticks with ingredients that can in be found in the homes of mainstream American’s, and it generally is of the comfort variety. Her natural appeal is the speed with which she prepares her healthy fare. Regrettably, she entertains with a goofy monologue as she assembles each mouth watering dish. After viewing a few of her 30 minute segments, you’ve heard the same lame commentary in an unending cycle.

Love her or hate her, she understands food and is making a fortune in an ever growing empire. She portrays herself as just a simple, small town girl who clings to her family and her Sicilian and Cajun roots. She is wounded by celebrity gossip and has taken the tabloids ‘to task’ for reporting trouble in her relationship with husband John M. Cusimano, the lead singer of the band The Cringe.

Controversial Rachael Ray Dunkin’ Donuts Ad Pulled (Photo)

Rachael Ray recently shot a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial and a firestorm has erupted to the point where the ad has been pulled. That’s right – DD couldn’t take the heat and decided to get out of the kitchen.

The company canceled an ad in which RR was wearing a scarf that has been identified by her critics as a keffiyeh. For many it symbolizes terrorism. Particularly vocal was ultra conservative Fox News commentator Michelle Malkin who pushed for a Dunkin’ Donuts boycott and wrote in her syndicated column:

The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant and not-so-ignorant fashion designers, celebrities, and left-wing icons.”

At first the donut empire let the complaints go unheeded but eventually bowed to public pressure and released this statement:

In a recent online ad, Rachael Ray is wearing a black-and-white silk scarf with a paisley design. It was selected by her stylist for the advertising shoot. Absolutely no symbolism was intended. However, given the possibility of misperception, we are no longer using the commercial.”
