Ricki Lake Show canceled after one season

Twentieth Television has canceled the syndicated ‘Ricki Lake Show’ after one season that failed to attract viewers.

The former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ celebrity returned to day time television in September 2012 with the launch of a new show that categorized her as a “working mom trying to figure life out” and inviting viewers to share her journey.

The 44-year-old actress and producer found early success on television that turned into an eleven year career from 1993-2004 with her first daytime talk show ‘Ricki Lake.’

One of her pet projects was the creation of a home birth and midwifery documentary ‘The Business of Being Born’ that was released in limited markets in 2008 after it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Ricki began dating Christian Evan in 2009 and married him in April 2012.  She has two sons, Milo, 15, and Owen, 11, born during her 1994-2005 marriage to illustrator-bartender Rob Sussman.

Ricki Lake and her jewelry designer fiance, Christian Evans, were married on Sunday in a secret ceremony in southern California.

Lake tweeted a wedding day photo after she eloped with Evans, saying, “Yup.  This is me…. Sadie Sadie married lady. :):) Love is in the air. Xo”

The couple, who have dated for 18 months, announced their engagement in August.

“It was a beautiful moment I will never forget,” Lake tells People magazine of her wedding day. “I wasn’t anxious or nervous. I was really relaxed and excited.”

“I didn’t think it would happen at this point in my life,” says Lake, 43. “We just clicked,” she adds about meeting Evans, 40. “It just feels like he was the right one all along.”

Lake has two sons, Milo, 15, and Owen, 10, from her first husband Rob Sussman.

Ricki Lake placed third and Rob Kardashian was runner-up …

On night-two of season thirteen’s Dancing with the Stars finale, the three remaining celebrity competitors and their pro partners had one last opportunity to impress the judges with their musicality.

Monday night Ricki Lake, J.R. Martinez and Rob Kardashian performed two routines.  The 24-year-old reality star and his pro partner Cheryl Burke beat out the talk show host and the war hero–performance videos and leaderboard scores.

Going into Tuesday night the Vegas oddsmakers were predicting that Martinez and his partner Karina Smirnoff would take home the coveted mirrorball trophy.

After all three couples performed their favorite dance of the season, Ricki and Derek were eliminated based on a combination of judges scores from Monday and Tuesday plus viewer vote totals.

Going head to head in the championship round, J.R. and Rob hit the dance floor for the Instant Samba round, performed to the song Shake Your Bon-Bon by Ricky Martin.  Martinez and Kardashian received perfect 30 scores from the judges.

Based on a final tabulation, J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff won the championship.

Rob Karashian has a leg up going into the final night of competition …

The two-part Dancing with the Stars finale performance episodes kicked off on Monday night with the remaining three couple’s performing two routines for the judges.

Tuesday night will be a dancing extravaganza.  The remaining three couples will dance the Samba once more for the judges.  The previously booted competitors will all hit the dance floor for one last performance with their pro partners.

Monday turned out to be another big night for Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke. After being conspicuously absent from the audience in recent weeks, reality celeb Kim Kardashian cheered her brother on from the family rooting section.

Rob, 24, leads the pack going into the second night of performances, chalking up 9,9,9 for his waltz, and 10,10,10 for his freestyle performance to Minnie the Moocher.

J.R. Martinez and Karina Smirnoff experienced agony and elation after getting the lowest score of the evening for their Cha-Cha-Cha, and a set of perfect 10′s for their ambitious freestyle danced to Whine Up.

The most consistent pair this season, Ricki Lake and Derek Hough, were given solid 9′s for their two performances but the judges have suddenly cooled on the fair-haired dance pro and his talk show host partner.

It is subtle but the praise they enjoyed early and often in the competition has diminished.  Hough has danced all three of his previous finale partners to victory:  Brooke Burke, Nicole Scherzinger, and Jennifer Grey.

He isn’t the only pro who knows how to win.  Cheryl Burke was successful in back-to-back wins in season two and three: Drew Lacey, Emmitt Smith.

Karina Smirnoff’s best showing was a second place finish during season three with Mario Lopez.  Can she and the war hero beat out the competition?  She really has sacrificed a great deal this season, calling off her wedding to MLB player Brad Penny in order to devote herself fully to J.R. Martinez.

Check out more photos from last night and view their freestyle performances below.  We’re thinking that Hough and Lake may have been intentionally snubbed with their less than perfect scores:

Team @Drickilous logs first DWTS injury …

Twelve celebrities and their professional dance partners have been rehearsing with reckless abandon in order to be ready when the popular ABC hit show Dancing with the Stars kicks off on Monday, September 19.

DWTS Promo Pics

The first injury has been reported via Twitter by Ricki Lake.  She tweeted a photo of a decidedly black and blue shin and said, “Look, my first injury.  Don’t ask how it happened.”

Actually she knew exactly how it occurred.  She was swinging one foot when her heel made hard contact with her other leg, causing a significant contusion.

She followed that up with, “Not sure how my bruise turned into a medic showing up? I’m fine!!”

Lake was assigned to the most successful pro partner on the show, Derek Hough, who enjoyed mirror ball success with Brooke Burke, Nicole Scherzinger and Jennifer Grey.

Ricki and Derek have given themselves the team name of @Drickilous.  The talk show host is drawing her inspiration from one of last season’s fan favorites, Kirstie Alley.

Go Ricki!
