Robert Downey Jr. Covers Men’s Vogue Spring 2009

Robert Downey Jr. has never looked hotter than on the cover of the upcoming Men’s Vogue. The magazine has gone from publishing ten times a year to doing two seasonal editions. The next issue, Spring 2009, will appear on the back of regular Vogue magazine in its April 2009 issue.

For the first time, Vogue will couple the male mag by binding it to the back as a reverse-bound issue having two covers. If you flip Vogue over, you get Men’s Vogue.

The future of Men’s Vogue is still up in the air. Publisher Conde’ Nast indicates it is an experiment that may allow the male version to survive the chopping block and enjoy a second life.

Step aside George Clooney, you may have finally met your match.

Robert Downey Jr. and his son Indio Falconer Downey were out and about in West Hollywood on Monday. They did lunch at the Urth Cafe and then hit the Bodhi Tree Bookstore.

Indio, 14, lives with his mother Deborah Falconer. The actress was married to Downey for 12 years. Their union ended in 2004. His father has been married to film producer Susan Levin for the past three years.

The actor is riding high with five film debuts in 2008: Charlie Bartlett, Iron Man, a cameo appearance in The Incredible Hulk, Tropic Thunder (not yet released) and The Soloist (in post production). He has also signed to do Incredible Hunk 2 and Cowboys Vs Aliens.

Robert Downey Jr. is a hot commodity since the release of Iron Man. The mega success of his latest film has catapulted him into the stratosphere. The 42 year old actor has had his share of demons and appears to have gained control over his addiction issues.

There is a Hugh Hefner biopic in the works and it is tentatively titled Playboy. The film will reportedly detail the colorful past of the magazine founder and icon of the sexual revolution. Playboy will be directed by Brett Ratner and has been in the works for nearly a year. Celebrity names that have been rumored to be playing Hef include Tom Cruise and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Not so fast says Perez Hilton. His website is reporting that Hugh Hefner admires Robert Downey Jr. and thoroughly enjoyed his portrayal in Iron Man, so much so, that he is ready to sign off on having the actor play him in the upcoming film.

Ron Howard will serve as producer for the project. Howard’s Image Entertainment movie company has teamed up with Universal Pictures to snap up the rights to 48 years of the magazine’s material in order to produce the movie.

Ironman, starring Robert Downey Jr. as a guy dressed in metal, turned to gold over the weekend with receipts of $100.7 million on it’s opening weekend. That gives the film bragging rights as the second best premiere ever for a non-sequel. The worldwide total box office take was $201 million with the $96.7 million haul in 57 countries outside the U.S.

The Paramount picture features Downey as billionaire arms designer Tony Stark, a hard drinking womanizer who builds a high-tech suit and becomes a superhero. He has a change of heart after he’s taken captive and sees firsthand the devastation his weapons cause.

The film is directed by Jon Favreau, and also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges and Terrence Howard.

Robert Downey Jr. was recently awarded the Male Star of the Year by ShoWest Awards. During Downey’s acceptance speech, he chose one person in his life to thank and that was his wife Susan. The two married in 2005.

While the actor has had his share of ups and downs with substance abuse over this acting career, it seems that since his union with Susan, he has been able to keep it together. The actor spoke about his companion and had this to say:

“That behind every great man, there’s a woman with her hand in his back pocket patting his ass and her arm up his back telling his mouth what to do.”

Robert’s next role will be starring with Gwyneth Paltrow in the movie Iron Man.
