Pete Rose, former MLB player and manager, has been seen recently with a new girlfriend.  He has shared a few details about her but has withheld her name, which continues to be a closely guarded secret.

We know that the Asian beauty is vivacious and statuesque.  Pete indicates she is a graduate of Arizona State, and previously served as a flight attendant for Korean Airlines.

Rose, 68, apparently talked the dark haired beauty into auditioning for Playboy.  Pete said, “My girl has finally decided to try to shoot for Playboy, and they were kind enough to give her an opportunity to come to Houston for an interview, and we’re excited about that.  She’s beautiful, she’s young, educated — there’s a lot of qualities.  She is very intelligent and just a really sweet girl.  Let’s just hope that the Playboy people like her.”

Pete’s girl, who is twenty-something,  may have a leg up with the competition because the photographer for the shoot is Mikki Chernoff, a former Playboy model and an ex-girlfriend of Rose.

In a UFC 106 rematch of light heavyweight champs on November 21 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Forrest Griffin was victorious.  The judges scored the three round bout 29-28 for Tito Ortiz, 30-27 for Griffin and 29-28 for Griffin.

The pair last met in 2006 at UFC 59, where Ortiz won a controversial split decision.  Tito’s last fight was in May 2008, where he lost to Lyoto Machida.

Griffin commented, “It feels great, man.  Tito was a great fight for me to come back.  I think we’re going to have to do a third.  It’s one and one now.  We’ll do it again.”

Coming in with back-to-back loses again Rashad Evans and Anderson Silva, Griffin has now improved his record to 17-6.

Tito got booed by the fans when he complained of a back injury and cracked skull as excuses for not winning the bout.  He and his wife Jenna Jameson went on to host an afterparty at TAO, undoubtedly not in a party frame of mind after the fight loss.

A few weeks back UFC heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar was pulled off of the UFC 106 card in Las Vegas scheduled for Nov. 21, reportedly due to illness.  Now it has been announced that his appearance on the UFC 108 card slated for January is cancelled too. According to UFC president Dana White, Brock is in “rough shape and won’t be back in the ring any time soon.”

Brock is currently in a hospital in North Dakota.  Dana said, “He went to Canada and some bad stuff happened to him, so we’ve got to figure it out.”  White went on to say that Brock does not want to talk publicly about his situation and White doesn’t expect him to be fully recovered any time soon.

It started out with people saying the fighter had swine flu.  Shortly thereafter it was reported that he was suffering from mononucleosis.  Now it appears that there is something else going on.  What is wrong with Brock Lesnar?

Plans to send Lesnar to the Mayo Clinic or the Scripps Institute are being considered.  Read more on what White had to say here.

Professional golfer Michelle Wie won her first LPGA event on Sunday.  Her breakthrough victory came at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she won by a two-stroke margin over Paula Cramer. The win didn’t come easily–Wie survived with a 69, making five straight pars and topping it off with a birdie.

Michelle began playing at the age of four and in 2000 at the age of ten, became the youngest player ever to qualify for the Women’s U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.  At age eleven she won the Hawaii State Women’s Stroke Play Championship and the Jennie K. Wilson Women’s Invitational.  In 2002, at age 12, she won the Hawaii State Open Women’s Division.  Her last win came at age 13 in 2003.

A week before her 16th birthday, in October 2005, Wie announced that she was turning pro, signing sponsorship contracts with Nike and Sony worth more than 10 million dollars per year.  She was not allowed to become a member of the LPGA, which has an age requirement of age 18 to join.

Wie went to qualifying school and passed muster in December 2008, giving her LPGA membership for the 2009 season.  In March 2009, Wie parted company with the William Morris Agency, and signed with sports agency IMG.

She took to her Twitter pages after the big win and ‘tweeted’, “such a great weekend first stanford football dominated and now this?!  wooowwwwwwwww i love life.”

Manny Paquiao was victorious over Miguel Cotto on November 14 in Las Vegas.  The TKO came 55 seconds into round 12, dethroning Cotto as WBO Welterweight Champion.  Pacquiao made history as the first boxer in history to win seven world titles in seven weight divisions.

Twice he put Cotto on the floor before the referee stopped the fight.  Pacquiao said, “I thought in the 11th round they would stop the fight.  I am surprised he continued to fight.  It’s history for me and more importantly a Filipino did it.”

Pacquiao could now fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a much-anticipated welterweight super clash.

In the photo above, Pacquiao and Cotto posed on Friday night for their weigh-in at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.  Manny tipped the scales at 144 and Miguel at 145.

Cotto and his wife Melissa Guzman Cotto have two children; Alondra and Miguel III.  Melissa left after the 10th round with their son as the blood and brutality became too much for the youngster to witness.

NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has been diagnosed with Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia and after keeping the condition under wraps for nearly a year, is speaking out.   The condition affects the blood and bone marrow and produces cancerous blood cells.

The 62-year-old admits, “Having lost one of my closest friends to a different, highly aggressive form of leukemia, I knew how serious my diagnosis was.  My own life expectancy became a question mark.”

The all-time leading NBA scorer retired in 1989, and continues as a special assistant coach for the Los Angeles Lakers.  He received his cancer diagnosis in December 2008 and has been receiving aggressive treatment that targets the abnormal protein that causes CML.  He has decided to come forward with his story to help others who might be struggling with their own treatment.

He takes oral medication daily, sees his specialist every other month and must undergo frequent blood draws for analysis and monitoring.  He said he expects to lead a healthy life.

A very private person, Kareem was slow to share his diagnosis but has had a change of heart recently, saying,  “I’m telling my story to encourage fellow patients to take charge of their health.  Work closely with your doctor, monitor your disease and, above all, take your medicine.”

University of New Mexico soccer player Elizabeth Lambert made headlines for the ponytail takedown of her opponent Kassidy Shumway during the NCAA Mountain West Conference semi-final between UNM and Brigham Young University last week.

Video of the incident went viral and led to an indefinite suspension for Lambert.

The hair pulling incident was just one of several inappropriate tactics that the UNM athlete used as part of her field strategy.  Check out all the details and photos here.

Josh Freeman was selected by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round (17th overall) of the 2009 NFL Draft.  He started his first professional game at home on Sunday, November 8th, and pulled off a win against the Green Bay Packers.

It was the team’s first win this year, putting them at 1-7.  With losses in their last four games in 2008, the embarrassing string was actually 11 losses before the wunderkind turned the tide today in Florida.

Freeman became the youngest quarterback in NFL history to start and win his first game.  The 21-year-old played his 3-year collegiate career at Kansas State, where his stats were impressive with 680 passes completed for 8,078 yards and 44 touchdowns in 35 career games.

The rookie quarterback signed a five-year, $13.5 million contract, including $10.245 million in guarantees.  The deal could balloon to as much as $36 million.

The final score was Green Bay 28, Tampa Bay 38.

Chicago Bears defensive tackle Tommie Harris was ejected from the Sunday game against the Arizona Cardinals a mere 65 seconds into the November 8th contest.  It could well be an NFL record for the earliest ejection in history.

At the end of an Arizona running play, Harris and Cardinal lineman Deuce Lutui ended up on the ground.  Before getting up, Tommie unleashed a couple of staccato punches to his competitors face – see video below.

The Bears were assessed a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty and Harris was summarily dismissed to the locker room for an early shower by no nonsense referee Ed Hochuli.

The Cardinals beat Chicago 41-21 final.

The Strikeforce M-1 Global heavyweight bout between Fedor Emelianenko and Brett Rogers was held on Saturday, November 7, in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

The action ended at 1:48 with a TKO in the second round when Emelianenko (31-1) landed a right hook that sent Rogers (10-1) down to the mat and then delivered a series of punches to his face before referee John McCarthy ended the fight.

During the post-fight interview – see below – Fedor said he was never in trouble, his cut nose wasn’t an issue and the seven minute bout went down exactly as planned.

Next up for Emelianenko is a championship match against Alistair Overeem in April 2010.
