Carrie Underwood tapped for Sunday Night Football theme song

Faith Hill is out and Carrie Underwood is in to sing the theme song for Sunday Night Football during the 2013 football season on NBC.

The veteran country singer is passing the torch to the former ‘American Idol’ winner who will put her own spin on ‘Waiting All Day for Sunday Night.’

According to producer Fred Gaudelli, it didn’t take him long to come up with a Plan B after Hill informed him in February that she was stepping down.

He admits that Underwood was the first performer that came to mind when NBC first broadcast the Sunday night NFL games in 2006.

The ‘Blown Away’ singer said during a conference call, “For me, it just always seemed like something that would be fun to do.  To watch Faith do it week after week, to see that hype for the game, it’s something that’s so cool.”

Faith Hill posts new Instagram photo

Faith Hill will no longer perform the Sunday Night Football theme song during future NBC broadcasts.

The country singer became the signature voice for the NFL sports program in 2007, replacing Pink with a new arrangement of ‘Waiting All Day For Sunday Night.’

Hill tweeted this morning, “Amazing 2 have been part of SNF – an honor.  I’ve just let everyone there know it’s time 2 let someone else rock the open.”

She added, “Difficult decision.  Kinda emotional.  Love all u guys at SNF – I’ll be watching!!!”

Executive producer Fred Gaudelli sent a Twitter shout out to Faith, “Great love and appreciation to @FaithHill for six great years of rocking the SNF open.”

The Miami Dolphins aren’t playing around when it comes to domestic violence.  The NFL team dropped Chad Johnson from the team roster after his weekend arrest.

The six-time Pro Bowl wide receiver was locked up Saturday night after he allegedly head-butted his wife, ‘Basketball Wives’ reality celeb Evelyn Lozada.

Johnson, formerly known as Chad Ochocinco, spent the night in jail and was released Sunday on a $2,500 bond.

He went straight from the slammer to meet an hour later with head coach Joe Philbin, who promptly terminated the wayward player.

Prior to their face-to-face confrontation Philbin told reporters, “We’re going to deal with this.  We’re not going to waste time.  We’re all in this thing together.  Everybody that sets foot in this building, we’re all held to a high standard.”

Five days before Johnson landed in jail he was already on the bad side of Philbin for using profanity when talking to reporters during training camp.  He reportedly warned the athlete that his roster spot could be in jeopardy if he didn’t “temper his freewheeling behavior.”

The former ‘Dancing with the Stars’ alum finally cooked his proverbial goose with the coach after assaulting his wife on Saturday night.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley picked up a DUI early Sunday morning after attempting to allude a Mobile, Alabama police cruiser.

The 291 lb. rookie was a first round draft pick by Detroit last year, signing a four-year contract worth $10 million with a $5.7 million signing bonus.

The athlete, 24, was charged yesterday with reckless driving, driving under the influence, open container and no proof of insurance.

Nick, a 2010 Lombardi Award-winner while playing for Auburn University, was released from jail after posting bond against bail set at $1,750.

He is but one of four 2011 draft picks to run afoul of the law and the Lions organization.  Running back Mikel Leshoure and offensive tackle Johnny Culbreath have both picked up tickets for possession of marijuana.  Receiver Titus Young sucker-punched Louis Delmas during a workout earlier this month and has been banned from off-season team activities.

This is Fairley’s second arrest in the past two months.  He was picked up on April 3 in Mobile and charged with possession of marijuana.  Check out that mug shot below:
