Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler suggested during a recent MTV interview that Nicki Minaj doesn’t have what it takes to be an ‘American Idol’ judge.

He said, “You just have to give your opinion.  It wasn’t hard for me, but I would imagine it’s hard for some people, and they need a manager to say ‘Shut the f—k up and give them your opinion.’”

“These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death, you’re not going to get the best out of them.  If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield!  Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best out of him, as we did with Phillip Phillips.  Just saying.”

As you might imagine, Nicki Minaj hit Twitter to rant, “Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet.  I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers.  I haven’t done anything to you.  That’s a racist comment.  You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? Why? Black? Rapper? What? Go f–k yourself and worry about yourself babe.”

She added, “When Steven first went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike.  Called a sell out.  So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge.”

The premiere of ‘American Idol’ season 12 will air on January 16, 2013 on FOX.

Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler and his fiancee Erin Brady have reportedly hit a rough patch in their relationship as he gets ready to tour with the band.

According to Page Six, the 64-year-old rocker and his long-time girlfriend are in a bad place right now that could go either way depending upon how badly they want to stay together.

In response to rumors, an Aerosmith rep said, “Just as any couple goes through trials and tribulations in a relationship, Steven and Erin are asking for their privacy at this time.  They are engaged to be married and each is committed to their sobriety.  Any claim to the contrary is absolutely false and misleading.”

Steven and Erin got engaged last December in Hawaii and hinted that they would be going for a “way over-the-top romantic” destination wedding, either in Hawaii or Thailand.”

The second leg of the Global Warming Tour kicks off next week with news songs from their album Music from Another Dimension!, set to drop on Nov. 6.

In a new interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Steven Tyler admits he was just passing time and collecting a paycheck during his two-year stint on American Idol.

Contrary to the glowing soundbites the rocker provided in his recent ‘I’m stepping down’ statement, he now acknowledges that it really was “not his cup of tea.”

Tyler admits, “It was something to do while the storm blew by, to be honest.  I loved it and hated it.”

He thoroughly enjoyed working with Jennifer Lopez and admits the $10 million per season contract certainly made it worth his while.  What he didn’t like was having to critique the young talent.

The Aerosmith frontman said, “The show’s about kids and what you do to nurture their talent.  They wanted me to take the piss out of the kids and I don’t have that in me.  That’s not what I’m about.”

During his exit announcement last month he characterized his time on the hit FOX show as “over-the-top-fun” and claimed he “loved every minute of it.”  Now we know the real story…

Rocker Steven Tyler announced Thursday that he is stepping down from the ‘American Idol’ judging panel after two seasons.

The legendary frontman said, “After some long hard thoughts I’ve decided it’s time for me to let go of my mistress ‘American Idol’ before she boils my rabbit.  I strayed from my first love Aerosmith, and I’m back.”

FOX president Mike Darnell confirmed the news, “He’s been a terrific judge, a true friend and great mentor to everyone involved with the show, and we know he’ll continue to be a huge inspiration to ‘Idol’ hopefuls for years to come.”

“We are very sad that Steven has chosen to focus more on his music, but we always knew when we hired a rock n roll legend, he would go back to the music.  We all wish him all the best and would love to have him back on the show anytime.”

Sounds like the hot and heavy rumors suggesting that Adam Lambert is on the ‘Idol’ judges short list just might be the real deal after all.

We would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge that Charlie Sheen and Jerry Lewis are two other names that have been tossed around quite liberally by Nigel Lythgoe.

Stay tuned …
