Mario Lopez gets contract extension

It was announced yesterday that half of last season’s ‘X Factor’ co-hosting duo has been invited back for Season 3.  Mario Lopez will become a solo act.

Simon Cowell and his executive team opted to drop Khloe Kardashian–a decision that should come as a surprise to absolutely no-one.  Rumors regarding her show demise have been around since February following her lackluster performance during the last cycle.

Cowell talked about his decision, “Hosting a live show and keeping the judges – especially Demi – in line is not an easy job.  Mario is a pro and we are glad he’s coming back.”

The ‘Extra’ celeb tweeted Monday:

Season 3 will premiere in the Fall, with auditions already underway in L.A., New Orleans, Charleston, Long Island and Denver.

Regarding replacements to fill in for ousted judges Britney Spears and L.A. Reid … that information is still a closely held secret.

Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid has announced that he will not be returning to ‘The X Factor’ for season three.

He told Access Hollywood, “I have decided that I will not return to The X Factor next year.  I have a company to run that I’ve kind of neglected.”

It doesn’t sound like he has many regrets about bailing on the reality competition, “It saddens me a little bit, but only a little bit.”

He does admit that he will miss one of his fellow judges, “I love Simon. We have a great relationship.  We have fun together, we talk, we laugh, we do bad things, we’re friends.”

Though he didn’t gush specifically about Britney Spears or Demi Lovato, he characterized the experience as “a nice break” from his day job.

As long as we’re talking ‘X Factor,’ how do you think Khloe Kardashian has been handling her co-hosting duties with Mario Lopez?  She seems more than a little bit out of her element.  Your thoughts?

Last night on the season premiere of ‘The X Factor’ the world watched closely to see how Britney Spears would handle the pressure of the night.

Many of her fans have expressed concern over the last month that the stress might be too much for the pop princess to handle.

We took photos throughout the two-hour show to demonstrate that her perfect french manicure morphed into a chewed up mess by the end of the premiere evening.

The destruction of her nails probably took place over the span of several days as evidenced by four clothing changes during the show that aired last night.

Sitting next to Simon Cowell can’t be easy … even for $15 million.  We wish her well and suggest that she needs to visit a nail salon ASAP.

Demi Lovato will join Britney Spears as a judge on “The X Factor” in the upcoming season.

The 19-year-old Disney star was joined by Spears as the announcement was made at the Fox network upfronts presentation at the Beacon Theatre in NYC just moments ago.

While Fox execs would not confirm earlier today whether or not Lovato and Spears would be in attendance at the Beacon Theatre, they stressed the need to make the series more “entertaining” and “exciting,” something they believe a new jolt of talent at the judges’ table can do.

“Well, we delivered,” says Simon Cowell. “This year we are seriously going to kick butt.”

The deal has been sealed.  After months of negotiating Britney Spears has finally agreed to a $15 million one-year contract with The X Factor.

Spears will be joining Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid in judges row.  She’ll fill one of the seats warmed last season by Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

The deal was inked last week and a source close to the pop singer said, “There’s been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she’s on. It’s all completed and Britney is beyond excited.”

This will be Brit’s first network TV deal since her short-lived reality show Britney & Kevin: Chaotic.  That 2005 disaster was pulled after one month.

On the short list to become the fourth judge: Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.  Fox Network will make an official announcement on Monday, May 14.
