John Mayer and Matt Lauer bantered a bit, before the seven-time Grammy winner launched into a performance of “Who Says” on the Today Show Thursday morning.

The song is from Mayer’s fourth studio album, “Battle Studies,” which he tells Lauer is “sort of like the last couple of years of my life…deeply investigated and set to music.”

Britney Spears ‘3′ video

Britney Spears announced the premiere of the video for her new single, “3” on her website, BritneySpears.com on Wednesday, and posted two pictures from the video on her Twitter page, thanking her fans for making the single a hit.

“I want to thank my fans for making ‘3′ the #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100,” she tweeted. “I am truly blessed with the greatest fans in the world.”

The video will debut on her site on Friday, October 30, but Britney continues sending out photos and clips.

Sony Pictures debuted Michael Jackson’s This Is It in 17 cities around the world Tuesday night.

Movie reviews, for the most part, have been glowing.

What “This Is It” offers is something you can get nowhere else: a look at MJ’s last days and the knowledge that as much as he lost, the man was still a genius to the end. As he announced after one song and, as no one could possibly argue otherwise, “We’re sizzling! We’re sizzling!”

For a modern entertainer who dies before his time, immortality is measured in residuals — the money from commemorative projects like this. Michael Jackson will have no resurrection — in the end, that was that — but the movie does earn him a redemptive legacy. It proves that, at the end, he was still a thriller. Fans and doubters alike can look at the gentle, driven singer-dancer at the center of this up-close document and say, admiringly: This was him.

What does come through is that Jackson worked hard, really hard. He looks a tad thin, but otherwise appears healthy and energetic. We see him sweat through difficult dance routines, reach again and again for high notes, and go through complicated production numbers repeatedly until he nails them. He clearly had a vision, and he gently coaxes his musicians and dancers to make it into a reality.

It’s funny how fast things change!  Just two short weeks ago we heard how mortified Shauna Sand was over a sex-tape that had surfaced, showing her engaging in sex acts with her current boyfriend.   Not only did it surface, but Vivid Entertainment claims Sand signed a contract that would allow them to air the video.

After Vivid announced that they would be moving forward with the distribution of Shauna’s sex tape, she hired a lawyer to stop the project.  That move was short lived and we have since learned that Shauna has dropped the lawsuit and is now backing the project.

We smell a pay-off, but Sands claims the reason behind dropping the suit was because it could prove to be “long and expensive”, says TMZ.

Shauna’s ex husband Lorenzo Lamas and his children recently launched their own reality show, Leave It to Lamas on the E! network.  Seems like perfect timing on the “sex tape”.

Charlize Theron auctioned off a kiss for charity at a OneXOne party in San Francisco Thursday night, raising $140,000.

Bidding stalled at $37,000 for a South Africa/World Cup package Theron was auctioning, so she upped the ante by offering a kiss to the highest bidder.

When a man bid $130,000 for a 7-second kiss, the actress told him, “Swine flu is going around. This is high risk kissing!”

A second man bid $135,000, but the $140,000 winning bid came from a woman, who took the stage for a 20-second, girl-on-girl make-out session with the Oscar-winning actress.

Jerome Rodale, a Jewish playwright, editor, author and publisher, was a guest on the Dick Cavett Show on June 5, 1971, when he dropped dead of a heart attack while the show was taping.

Wile Cavett was discussing politics with journalist Pete Hamill, Rodale’s head dropped to his chest and he let out what sounded like a snore.  “Are we boring you, Mr. Rodale?” asked Cavett.  There was no response — Rodele was dead.

Ironically, Rodale, 72, was on the show to promote organic faming and a healthy lifestyle, and had just said, “I never felt better in my life,” and “I’ve decided to live to be a hundred.”

The show was never broadcast, and the  video footage was never released.  The master tape of Rodale’s on-air death, complete with medics rushing to the stage, remains locked up in Cavett’s home.

Carolina Panthers special-teams player Dante Wesley delivered a nasty hit on Tamba Bay Buccaneers Clifton Smith on Sunday, bringing players from both teams onto the field.

The hit knocked Smith unconscious for nearly a minute, and resulted in West being ejected from the game.

I was just trying to make a play,” Wesley told reporters after the game. “You can check my record. …. I’ve never really tried to hurt anybody. I’ve never tried to take a cheap shot on anybody.”

Despite Wesley’s claims, the video replay clearly shows unnecessary roughness as he drives his left shoulder and elbow into Smith’s upper body.

The hit came late in the second quarter, and Smith never returned to the game.  The Panthers went on to defeat the Bucs 28-21.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck returned to The View Monday, October 19, 2009, after nearly three months of maternity leave.

Elisabeth showed off a photo she took of her third child, Isaiah Timothy Hasselbeck, shortly after his birth, and told the audience about her embarrassing nip slip photo incident.

The new mom took a picture of Isaiah with her iPhone just after breastfeeding him, and forwarded the photo to her family and  husband Tim Hasselbeck’s family. She didn’t realize until she got home and looked at the photo again, that her exposed nipple appeared in the shot.

“Awkwardly, my father-in-law and my brother-in-law saw it,” she said.
