Demi Lovato returning to X Factor

‘X Factor’ creator Simon Cowell and the FOX network have confirmed that Demi Lovato will return as a panel member for Season 3 of the singing competition.

Following a lackluster second season it seemed to be a perfect time for a talent shakeup.  L.A. Reid and Britney Spears were not offered contract extensions and it remains unclear if co-hosts Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez will be returning.

The on-air chemistry between the ‘KUWTK’ reality star and the ‘Extra’ host seemed shaky at best throughout their two-month stint.  The ‘Saved By The Bell’ celeb was clearly comfortable and definitely in his element but he didn’t seem at all interested in bonding with his rookie counterpart.

A rivalry ensued between Cowell and Lovato last season but it was apparently all for show.  Simon acknowledged, “I couldn’t be happier that Demi wants to come back this year.  She’s a superstar in her own right and was a fantastic mentor last year.”

He went on to say, “Even though she can be really, really annoying — I truly enjoyed working with her and so did the artists.  I’m especially pleased she’s back, even during her world tour!”

Demi is slated to drop her fourth studio album in May 2013.  She released the first single ‘Heart Attack’ in February.  The electropop love song uses cardiac arrest as a metaphor for lovesickness.

Khloe Kardashian out after one season of X Factor

According to the New York Post, reality celeb Khloe Kardashian will not be returning for a second season of ‘X Factor’.

The publication quoted an insider who claims, “They are asking Mario Lopez to come back, but not Khloe.”

One prominent website mockingly speculated that the “awkward” pair were secretly being paid off by rival singing show ‘The Voice’ to foul the water.

Last month FOX exec. Mike Darnell gave a decidedly weak response when asked to critique the season’s X Factor hosts.

The president of Alternative Entertainment for Fox Broadcasting said, “I think the hosts were okay.  I think Mario knows how to be a host.  I think Khloe was new.  And I thought for someone new she did okay.  She never hosted before.”

Season three of X Factor premieres in September 2013.  L.A. Reid and Britney Spears have already been dumped.  Under the circumstances, it seems doubtful that Khloe Kardashian will be given a second chance at hosting.  Stay tuned…

Tate Stevens signs with Cowell label

‘The X Factor’ Season two champion Tate Stevens has signed a record deal worth $5 million with Syco Music/RCA Records Nashville.

A news release Tuesday reported that the 37-year-old country crooner from Belton, Missouri has relocated in Nashville and is already writing and recording for an untitled album that will be released in the fall on Simon Cowell‘s record label.

Tate hit Twitter late yesterday with the news, “This is really a dream come true, signed with Syco Music, RCA Nashville.  I am blessed because of you! #tatenation”

The newest ‘X Factor’ winner began as the lead singer with Outlaw Junkies in 2005.  He moved on in 2008 to form the Tate Stevens Band, a six-man ensemble that has toured extensively in the Midwest.

He auditioned in early 2012 in Kansas City and was selected to go to boot camp where he had to sing for survival.  The entertainer ended up competing as part of the top 24 in the “Over 25s” category and was mentored by L.A. Reid.  He was chosen to be part of his mentor’s top four and went on to win the top prize.

Stevens married his high school sweetheart in 1997, and they have a son Hayden and a daughter Rylie.

Britney Spears not returning to X Factor

After just one decidedly understated season as a celebrity judge on the Fox reality competition ‘The X Factor,’ Britney Spears has confirmed that she will not be returning.

The pop star released a statement on Friday, “I’ve made the very difficult decision not to return for another season.  I had an incredible time doing the show and I love the other judges and I am so proud of my teens but it’s time for me to get back in the studio.  Watching them all do their thing up on that stage every week made me miss performing so much!”

She ended by saying, “I can’t wait to get back out there and do what I love most.”

Show creator Simon Cowell gambled when he signed Spears to a $15 million deal, hoping to appeal to a wider viewer base.  Unfortunately Brit wasn’t able to muster the required level of enthusiasm during her one season stint and it didn’t take execs long to decide it had been a very bad decision indeed.

Don’t feel bad for Britney because her empire is secure.  She earned a bundle in 2012, more than any other woman in music with an impressive $58 million from the proceeds of her successful album ‘Femme Fatale,’ product endorsements, her signature perfume line and the hefty payday for the short-lived X-Factor gig.

Is Britney Spears being fired from The X Factor?

Show creator Simon Cowell is reportedly giving Spears the boot after just one season as a judge.

“Britney will get the boot,” Us Weekly is reporting. “Producers wanted her for the long haul, but it isn’t working.”

After paying Spears $15 million to appear on the show, Cowell was reportedly disappointed with her “low energy” performance. “They paid all that for her to say ‘amazing’ and offer half-claps,” an insider tells the magazine.

“He wanted crazy Britney, but he got boring Britney,” says a source.

If the rumors are true, Britney will join a long list of departures from the show in just two seasons. Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger, Cheryl Cole, and L.A. Reid have all left the show or been let go.
