Shannen Doherty has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

The former Beverly Hills, 90210 and Charmed actress revealed this sad news in an unusual manner: via a lawsuit she filed against her former business manager on Wednesday.

The legal documents, procured by The Hollywood Reporter, state that the 44-year old star recently discovered she has invasive breast cancer.

The lawsuit claims the disease spread because she was not properly covered by her health insurance.

It specifically cites Tanner Mainstain, Doherty’s former business management firm, arguing that the company failed to obtain insurance premiums through Screen Actors Guild in a timely manner.

Doherty was fired by Tanner Mainstain in February 2014, allegedly leaving her uninsured and temporarily unaware that she was uninsured.

The star then re-enrolled with SAG’s insurance in 2015, which is when she learned of her cancer diagnosis.

"Plaintiff was also informed that, had she been insured and able to visit her doctor, the cancer could potentially have been stopped, thus obviating the need for the future treatment (including mastectomy and chemotherapy) that Plaintiff will likely have to suffer through now," the documents state.

It is unclear at the moment, but Doherty may need to undergo a mastectomy and chemotherapy.

We send her our best wishes.
