Adele got a little carried away at the BRIT Awards while accepting an award for Best Album. The singer flipped the bird when her speech was cut short and has since clarified the gesture.

The talented singer was saying, “I am so proud to be British and to be flying the flag,” when host James Corden interrupted her to introduce British pop band Blur.

Adele promptly hoisted her middle finger as the crowd booed loudly, presumably at the slight against the songstress.

She had some regrets after the fact and offered up an explanation: “I flung the middle finger. That was for the suits at the BRIT Awards, not my fans. I don’t want them to think that I was swearing at them.”

The BRIT Awards suits issued their own apology: “We regret this happened and we send our deepest apologies to Adele that her big moment was cut short this evening due to the live show over-running. We don’t want this to undermine her incredible achievement in winning our night’s biggest award. It tops off what’s been an incredible year for her.”

The entertainer, who also received the award for Best British Female Solo Artist, was seen kissing and cuddling her boyfriend Simon Konecki throughout the ceremony.
