Country musicians Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton got engaged over the weekend. He asked her to marry him on Sunday, according to Lambert’s publicist Kathy Best.

With a nod to an old-fashioned custom, Blake reportedly phoned her father, Rick, to ask permission before he broached the subject with his perspective bride.

After receiving his future father-in-law’s blessing, Shelton proposed to Lambert in the woods near her home in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, and she accepted.

The couple have been together for five years. Now that she has finally made a huge breakthrough with her #1 single “White Liar”, winning three ACM Awards, the time was apparently right.

Shelton had a #1 hit of his own this year with “Hillbilly Bone” and won an ACM award of his own for Vocal Event of the Year with Trace Adkins.

No word on when the couple will exchange their vows.
