jay leno bids farewell wenn20759943

Jay Leno is stepping down on Thursday to make way for The Tonight Show's new host Jimmy Fallon.

Billy Crystal, who was Leno's first guest in 1992, is scheduled to be his final one as well. Garth Brooks will also make an appearance, along with surprises being kept under wraps.

"It is going to be difficult not doing a show every day, and it will be difficult for the staff who have all been together for 22 years," said executive producer Debbie Vickers.

Leno, 63, said he will continue playing comedy clubs, indulging his passion for cars and doing whatever TV work comes his way, other than hosting on late-night. "It has been a wonderful job. This is the right time to leave," he said last week.

Fallon begins his "Tonight" run on February 17.

miley guests on tonight show with leno

Miley Cyrus did a guest appearance on 'The Tonight Show' Thursday and chatted with soon-to-be retired host Jay Leno on a number of topics, including the recent antics of Canadian pop singer Justin Bieber.

The 'Wrecking Ball' singer, no stranger to controversy, wasn't taking herself too seriously when dishing some advice to the teen who has been arrested twice in the past week.

She mused, "You've got a lot of money.  Pay people to make sure you don't get into trouble.  Party at your house.  Add a club to it."

Regarding her own situation, she said emphatically that she has no mugshots in her portfolio, "I'm not doing anything illegal.  I'm doing a lot of stuff.  Everything I do is legal in California."

We expect she is talking about the things she is doing now that she is a legal adult.  Who can forget the bong controversy that erupted in 2010 when video leaked from her 18th birthday.  Afterward the former Hannah Montana star claims it was actually the psychedelic herb salvia in the bong -- a legal substance.

She told Leno that her mother Tish Cyrus hates it that she chooses to stick her tongue out all the time instead of showing off her perfect teeth.

will smith first guest on fallons tonight show

Jimmy Fallon will take over the reins of the 'Tonight Show' during the second week of the Olympics, making his debut February 17.

Appearing as his first guest will be 'Men in Black' actor Will Smith, with Bono group U2 taking on the musical guest duties for the evening.

Veteran host Jay Leno has also announced the guest lineup for his final week at the helm of the 'Tonight Show.'  He'll sit down with Betty White, Matthew McConaughey, Sandra Bullock, Blake Shelton, Lyle Lovett, Charles Barkley and his replacement Jimmy Fallon.

Jay has chosen to feature Billy Crystal as his final guest for a sentimental reason.   The comedic actor was his first guest in May 1992 when he took over for Johnny Carson.  His last musical guest will be Garth Brooks.

Leno has said previously that he didn't want to discuss his future plans until he finished his final week on the show.  NBC Entertainment president Robert Greenblatt has a few things up his sleeve, should Jay be interested.

"I would love him to do specials with us, and we've got ideas about other sorts of shows he can host.  As he told me recently, NBC has really been his only home."

bush and leno on tonight show

Jay Leno received a priceless gift Tuesday on the TONIGHT show from his special guest President George W. Bush.

The former POTUS and First Lady Laura Bush accepted an invitation to appear on the NBC evening talk show, much to Leno's shock and delight.  They brought along a spectacular present for the soon-to-be retired Leno.

President Bush presented Jay with a portrait that he painted -- a very good likeness of the stand up comedian.  He remarked with a straight face, "I am a painter.  You may not think I'm a painter; I think I'm a painter."

W has been taking lessons in Dallas and reportedly told his instructor at the onset, "There's a Rembrandt trapped in this body.  Your job is to find him."

Leno remarked that Bush "looks much more relaxed" since returning to private life.  Bush cracked, "Duh!"

Other subjects covered included a discussion of his recent heart surgery.  Mrs. Bush indicates she was very frightened but her husband said flippantly, "I wasn't that scared."  Leno interjected, "You had Obamacare?"  That got a big laugh.

kim kardashian and jay leno oct 30 2013

Reality star Kim Kardashian made a guest appearance Wednesday on The Tonight Show and chatted it up about her recent sexy swimsuit selfie posted to Instagram.

Kim was rocking a white lace see-through dress by Dolce & Gabbana that featured a prominent view of her black bra and bikini-styled pants.

She told Jay Leno, "I was trying on a bathing suit, and I actually just sent that to my boyfriend, my fiance, and I was like, 'Babe, can I post this up?  This is my big, like, middle finger to the world on everyone that called me fat.'"

It turns out the 'Keep Up with the Kardashians' celeb is holding a grudge against all of the haters who mocked her when she put on 50 pounds while pregnant with baby North.

Kardashian revealed, "It really hurt my soul.  I was gaining weight because I was pregnant, and it was really hard to read all these stories and hear all these nasty things.  I've definitely tried to live more of a private life because of that."

Regarding her recent engagement, KK dropped a few hints about the wedding.  It will be a destination event with Bruce Jenner walking her down the aisle sometime next summer.  She will pick the place and is thinking Italy or Kanye's favorite place on the planet ... Paris. She will become Kim Kardashian West -- adding his name to hers.

Kim will turn over the planning to her rapper fiance Kanye West for what is likely to be another over-the-top extravaganza--suitable for a two-part E! special perhaps?

sharon osbourne and jay leno had a fling

During a special segment on 'The Talk' Monday, Sharon Osbourne revealed that she had a fling with Jay Leno 35 years ago.

Each of the show's co-hosts will tell a "Big Secret" this week and it was Mrs. O's turn to dish first -- and so she did.

She began her tale by stating, "It's not like it's a dirty little secret.  When I was 25, I just moved to America.  I had met Ozzy but we weren't together.  We were just friends.  I never did date a lot at that time, anyway, because I was not very dateable."

She and a friend watched Leno performing his comedy routine, and Osbourne thought he was "very nice, very funny."

Thus began a series of phone calls to him because, she admits, "he liked my voice."

According to Sharon, "One thing led to another.  He came to my house and met me and then we had a little fling.  The fling was more fling for me and not fling enough for him."

"A couple of months into it he brought around the real love of his life for me to meet.  She was lovely and they took me to Fat Burger and they showed me around town.  They were so kind to me and we have continued the friendship over the years."

When quizzed by her co-hosts, she couldn't or wouldn't recall if he was a good lover but she did acknowledge that he was a good kisser.  So there you have it...

For the record, Leno, 63, married Mavis Nicholson in 1980.  She is a leading feminist in California who prefers to work behind the scene of the non-profit Feminist Majority Foundation.

seth meyer snags late night gig

Seth Meyers has been tapped to take over the NBC 'Late Night' gig when Jimmy Fallon vacates the slot to step in for the retiring Jay Leno next year.

The 'Saturday Night Live' head writer was considered the favorite to replace Fallon when he begins hosting 'The Tonight Show,' and the news has now been confirmed.

NBC entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt announced, "His years at SNL's Weekend Update desk, not to mention being head writer of the show for many seasons, helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the 'Late Night' franchise."

The Emmy-winner has appeared on 'SNL' for twelve years.  He said, "Twelve-thirty on NBC has long been incredible real estate.  I hope I can do it justice."

Seth will remain on 'SNL' through the fall, when he will begin preparing to take over the late-night gig that will be executive produced by Lorne Michaels.

Meyers hit Twitter a few hours ago to announce his new job and get in a Mother's Day shout out too, "So, next year I'm going to succeed Fallon on 'Late Night.'  Thanks to NBC, Lorne, but especially Mom."

jimmy fallon strikes paydirt

After weeks of speculation, NBC confirmed Tuesday that Jay Leno will be leaving 'The Tonight Show' in the spring of 2014.  Stepping in for a New York City-based revamp of the popular evening talkie will be Jimmy Fallon.

NBC Universal CEO Steve Burke announced, "We are purposefully making this change when Jay is #1, just as Jay replaced Johnny Carson when he was #1."

One day after the  two men collaborated on a touching video spoof, Leno said in a press release, "Congratulations Jimmy.  I hope you're as lucky as me and hold on to the job until you're the old guy.  If you need me, I'll be at the garage."

Leno took the opportunity to poke a little fun at his CBS rival David Letterman.

Jimmy Fallon is clearly enjoying the well wishes of fans.  He tweeted, "Today was one of the most exciting days of my life.  I read every tweet and every post and I thank you."

There is already buzz about the possibility of funnyman Seth Meyers being tapped to take over Fallon's 'Late Night' gig.  Another scenario could have the network expand 'The Tonight Show' to two hours.

jimmy fallon and jay leno croon tonight

In a humorous video parody, 'Late Night' host Jimmy Fallon teamed up with 'Tonight' veteran Jay Leno to croon a song from the iconic Broadway musical 'West Side Story.'

Adding more fuel to speculation that Leno will be replaced by Fallon next year, this spoof aired as a seamless transition between the two shows on Monday night.

The sketch started with Leno being hounded by reporters at his Burbank studio as Fallon is shown in his office minutes before he is due on stage.

Jay telephones Jimmy and before you know it they're singing a dramatic rendition of the 1956 tune 'Tonight' written by Leonard Bernstein.

NBC has not yet announced their 2014 plan but this collaborative effort appears to be the first signal that the network wants this transition to go smoothly after the black eye they received during the 2010 Conan fiasco.

Check out the video below ... good stuff:

letterman goads nbc newsman brian williams

NBC newsman Brian Williams sat down with David Letterman last night on the 'Late Show' and was immediately grilled about a number of festering network issues.

The veteran CBS host tested the waters, "I'm the soul of discretion.  A few months ago there was a problem on the TODAY show."

Williams laughed and asked, "Am I going to wake up in the shower?  Please tell me I'm going to wake up and it's going to be morning and I'm going to say 'Hey!  I'm doing Dave tonight and that was just a dream.'"

Letterman pressed on, "No, now listen."  He wove a convoluted tale of the feud between Ann Curry and Matt Lauer that resulted in a shake-up and then went on to suggest that the 'Tonight Show' rumors were leaked to get everyone to focus there and not on the TODAY show.

He ended by asking Williams, "If I'm on to something, blink twice."  To the newsman's credit ... he did not.

The media noise surrounding Lauer has increased in recent weeks.  After rumors surfaced that NBC had approached Anderson Cooper, a spokesman said, "The network has exploratory talks with talent inside and outside of the network.  But to read anything specific into that is presumptuous."

Check out the humorous exchange between Brian and Dave on video below:
