LeAngela Davis: 2010 Miss Hooters International
Since 1986, Hooters has held Miss Hooters International, a pageant of Hooters Girls from around the world. This year’s event, the 14th Annual, took place in Ft Lauderdale, Florida on Saturday July 10, 2010 and was broadcast on Spike TV.
Saturday’s pageant featured 100 Hooters Girls. The contestants were plucked from a group of 17,000 women, who competed in local swimsuit contests or were chosen to represent their Hooters location. The winner, LeAngela Davis of Columbus, Ohio, received a crown , title, bragging rights, and the $50,000 first place prize. She will also appear in the Hooters Magazine, Hooters Calendar and in a national TV commercial.
The restaurant chain was founded in 1983 and hires waitstaff who are willing and able to project a certain sex appeal. The operation relies upon three basic principles: wings, beer, and beautiful women.
The first restaurant opened on April Fools Day as a joke. The six Clearwater, Florida businessmen were so sure that their venture would fail that they erected a small ‘graveyard’ at the front door. To their surprise, the business flourished to 455 locations.
It was announced on February 2010 that the chain is up for sale – $250 million is the asking price.
