Last night's nail biting finale of True Detective was difficult to watch. Literally.
HBO Go, a streaming service offered to HBO subscribers, was overwhelmed with viewers logging on to watch the finale. So overwhelmed, that most users who tried to stream the show after 9 pm were greeted with an error message.
If you've been keeping up with the 8 episode season, this shouldn't surprise you. Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey (fresh off an AMAZING awards season), are perfect as odd couple Martin Hart and Rust Cohle, two detectives paired together to work a string of murders that appear to be ritualistic sacrifices.
If there were parts of the season that went over your head (Rust Cohle, though hypnotic in his pessimistic introspection, can be wordy at times), don't fear. The finale is jaw dropping, yet manages to tie it all up with a neat(ish) bow.
If this doesn't make the Emmy rounds, there truly is no justice.
HBO Go is now back up and running, so if you haven't caught the finale yet, you're in luck.

Actor Matthew McConaughey admits he's become selfish now that he is married with children. His relatively new responsibilities have caused him to reassess each career move carefully before taking on new films.
The 'Magic Mike' star covers the new issue of 'Details' magazine, and talks about just how much he has changed over the past few years.
His surfer dude persona is gone, having been replaced by a more thoughtful and admittedly "selfish" family man vibe. MM took a self-imposed hiatus several years ago from film work and now weighs each new opportunity while considering the impact it will have on his model wife Camila Alves and their three children, Levi, Livingston and Vida.
He explains, "I just said, 'I'm going to take some time off. I have to take care of my family right now. We've got the means in the bank account, we've got a roof over our head, we're gonna eat well, we're fine. So let's take some introspective time.' It wasn't a mini-retirement. It was just that I wanted to listen to myself and be a bit more discerning."
McConaughey admits, "I'm choosing to be more selfish. I remember feeling not sure about what I wanted to do and was feeling -- I'm not sure despondent is the right word, but a feeling like things were plateauing. I wanted to close the gap between who I am and the life I'm living and my work life. So I think I got really selfish. You start a family and you get selfish."
While he struggled to take advantage of some new projects, he credits his wife with giving him a strong nudge. He recalls, "I've got a wife who challenges me. There were two movies I wanted to do last year, but they were back-to-back with no separation. She was like, 'You want to do it--buck up, grab your nuts, and make it happen. We'll be there with you.'"

Matthew McConaughey accompanied his beautiful wife to the Spirit Awards. He dropping 40 pounds last year for a film role in 'Dallas Buyers Club' and appears to be slowly recovering his former buff look.
The 31-year-old Brazilian model talked about getting her figure back, "Right now I'm still in the recovery stages so I can't really exercise too hard. Just diet. It's amazing how much eating the right things and drinking enough water will actually do for your body, so that's what I'm try to do now."

In the aftermath of the Lance Armstrong confessions to Oprah last week in a two-part OWN exclusive, his pal Matthew McConaughey is speaking out.
During his premiere of 'Mud' at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, the 43-year-old actor talked about his good friend and fellow Texas native, "My first reaction was I was pissed off. I was mad. Then I got kind of sad for him. First off, I had a part of me that took it kind of personally, which I think a lot of people have."
Then he thought about it for a while and decided to cut Armstrong some slack, "What was he supposed to do? Call me to the side and go, 'Hey man, I did it but don't tell anybody.' Then I would have really had a reason to be pissed off at him, going, 'You want me to walk around holding this?'"
The actor is actually rooting for the disgraced athlete, "Where I am now is I've put myself out of the way and I am happy for this guy, who has now chosen to reenter this new chapter of his life. He is now a truly free man without the weight he had on his shoulders, without the boogie man under the bed, the skeleton in the closet that he's carried for 14 years. Fourteen years he lied and carried the lie with him."
He quoted Oprah, "She said 'the truth shall set you free,' but she forgot one part. It's miserable in the beginning. And it's going to be miserable. But he's looking it in the eye, and he'll handle it. He'll deal. And he's ready for how hard it's going to be to deal."
Two months ago Armstrong posted a provocative image on his Twitter page featuring himself lounging on a sofa with his seven Tour de France yellow race shirts framed in the background. He captioned it, "Back in Austin and just layin' around." When Winfrey asked him what he was thinking, he grimaced and said, "I actually thought it was a good idea at the time."

Matthew McConaughey, 43, has lost a significant amount of weight for an upcoming movie role and was nearly unrecognizable when photographed Friday at LAX.
The normally buff actor has lost 30 pounds for his role as an 1980's AIDS patient seeking experimental HIV drug treatment in the film The Dallas Buyer's Club.
Production has begun and it won't be long before the Magic Mike celeb can go back to a normal diet -- though a recent interview seems to suggest that he has found the weight loss journey to be a somewhat satisfying psychological exercise.
He recently told Larry King, "For me, it's more of a mental thing than a physical thing. I'll get down to the weight I need to get to. I'm on the way, and it's what I need to do for the job. It's a bit of a spiritual cleanse, mental cleanse. I'm drinking a lot of tea."
