edgier style suits michelle williams

We absolutely love the new hairdo that Michelle Williams was rocking in New York City yesterday at the 'Kate Young for Target' launch.

The 32-year-old actress of 'Oz the Great and Powerful' fame has suddenly adopted an edgier look with one side cut up over her ear and a deep side part that features long pieces of hair falling over her forehead.

Williams had adopted something of a Pollyanna look in the past, with demure dresses and her entire forehead covered with a side swept mane of hair.

Michelle is a single mother, raising her 8-year-old daughter Matilda Ledger.  Her only child was born during her three year relationship with Australian actor Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental drug overdose in January 2008.

She and actor Jason Segal were an item for almost a year before they split in February 2013, citing distance as the reason for the break-up.  She and her daughter live in Manhattan and he is based in L.A., where his sitcom 'How I Met Your Mother' is filmed.

Distance is being blamed for the demise of the one-year relationship between Michelle Williams and Jason Segel of 'How I Met Your Mother' fame.

The couple started dating in March 2012 and appeared to be on solid ground, but that all changed several weeks ago when they decided that her life in New York City and his in Los Angeles made it too difficult to keep the relationship going.

Last month Williams talked about the reaction their relationship had received, "If people are happy about it that makes me feel good ... Any kind sentiment that the world can feed back, well, I won't turn it down."

She has one child, 7-year-old Matilda, her daughter with late actor Heath Ledger, who died of an accidental drug overdose in 2008.

Michelle is currently promoting her latest film 'Oz the Great and Powerful' with co-star James Franco.  The fantasy adventure hits theaters March 8, 2013.

Reps for the actors have not commented.

is her look too precious

Michelle Williams hit the red carpet at the 84th Academy Awards luncheon wearing yet another cute little dress from the Victoria Beckham 2012 Spring collection.

Her storm cloud creation was embellished with rhinestone streams of rain.  The neckline featured a Peter Pan collar.

This is the second sweet fashion statement, from the same designer, worn by the Emmy nominee this awards season.

During the BAFTA Awards in January, the My Week with Marilyn celeb wore a little black and white number that had scallops around the neck and on the bodice.

Critics suggest that she is "too precious" in her vintage school girl wardrobe and pixie hairstyle.  This does beg the question: Do we love it or hate it?

michelle williams channels marilyn monroe in gq

Michelle Williams covers the February 2012 issue of GQ in skimpy lingerie and a platinum wig, a nod to the late blonde bombshell Marilyn Monroe.

The actress picked up the Golden Globe best actress award on Sunday night for her portrayal of MM in the film My Week with Marilyn.

In her GQ interview, the talented 31-year-old actress talked about playing a sex kitten after shedding the image that she developed during her tenure on Dawson's Creek circa 1998-2003.

She acknowledges, "I want that time back when I didn't appreciate what I had.  That kind of ripe sexuality, when you hit your thirties you feel more in possession of it, you feel it's not something that can be taken away from you and reassembled."

Williams has a six-year-old daughter Matilda from her relationship with the late Heath Ledger.

After years of remaining silent, Michelle Williams recently opened up during a Nightline interview about the death of Heath Ledger, the father of her child.  It is now something that she regrets.

"I just had an experience with Nightline that got edited in such a way that seemed as if I did go too far.  It was a three-hour interview that was edited in such a way that was devastating to me," the actress recently told pop culture writer Kevin Sessums.

She continued: "They used those few quotes and the way they edited the piece to sell the interview, and it appeared as if I were breaking some kind of silence and sitting down with the express purpose to discuss something that is very private to me."

Williams admits that she still struggles with the death of Ledger because she lost a lot: "I lost my city because of all the paparazzi descending upon us.  I actually lost my journal during that time, oddly enough. I literally couldn't hold on to anything.  It felt as if things were literally slipping through my fingers. Things were just streaming away from me. I lost my sense of humor. I'm still sort of looking for that."

Things aren't all bad for the actress.  She has a new movie Blue Valentine and a new love interest with her co-star Ryan Gosling and claims to have had "a really good Christmas."
