miss utah marissa powell flubs question

Miss USA 2013 contestant Marissa Powell, representing Utah, totally botched a question presented to her by judge NeNe Leakes.

The 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' celeb asked: "A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners yet they continue to earn less than men.  What does this say about society?"

Powell responded, "I think we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to -- figure out how to create jobs right now.  That is the biggest problem and, I think, especially the men are seen as the leaders of this, so we need to -- create education better so we can solve this problem."

All was not lost despite her epic fail.  The Salt Lake City native was undoubtedly disappointed with her third runner up placement but she did win Miss Photogenic.

Anticipating a surge of requests for network interviews, Marissa's Miss Utah 2013 Twitter page posted this message: "Please direct all media requests to Congratulations to Marissa for placing..."

Pageant owner Donald Trump weighed in with this tweet, "Trending story on Miss Utah is very unfair.  She simply lost her train of thought--could happen to anyone! @MissUSA @Miss Universe"

Check out her rambling response on the video below:

2013 miss usa erin brady poses

The newly-crowned 2013 Miss USA is 25-year-old Erin Brady of East Hampton, Connecticut.

A financial accountant who earned her degree at Central Connecticut State University, with a minor in criminal justice, Brady will raise awareness for breast and ovarian cancers, the organization's official cause.

The beauty queen will also advocate for children of addicts, citing a family struggle with alcoholism as her motivation.

Prior to being crowned, Miss Connecticut tweeted, "So far I have met @realDonaldTrum, spoke to @GiulianaRancic, and about to dance with @JonasBrothers.  What a day. #missusa"

She'll go on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow, Russia, on Nov. 9.    Both pageant organizations are jointly owned by NBC Universal and Donald Trump, in addition to the Miss Teen USA pageant.

Last year Olivia Culpo, Miss Rhode Island, was crowned the 2012 Miss USA.  She went on to win Miss Universe, a situation that elevated first runner up Nana Meriwether, Miss Maryland, to become Miss USA.

That said, this year's first runner up, Miss Alabama Mary Margaret McCord, could be tapped to take on the title in the event that Erin Brady is unable to complete her yearlong reign.

We've included photos of Erin Brady rocking the evening gown and swimsuit competition:

from rhode island to usa to miss universe

Olivia Culpo, the reining Miss USA, was crowned 2012 Miss Universe Wednesday at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.

The 20-year-old represented Rhode Island when she took the crown in June and bested 88 contestants last night to win the ultimate pageant title.  It was the first time in 15 years that an American won the international beauty competition.

Culpo hit Twitter to thank her followers, "What an honor!  This night was a dream come true.  Thank you everyone for your support tonight!!! USA finally did it."

The Miss USA and Miss Universe organization is owned jointly by Donald Trump and NBC Universal.  The newly crowned Miss Universe posed with the real estate mogul, who puckered up for photographers ... we apologize if these images cause you distress.

jenna talackova will compete in 2012 miss universe canada pagean

Miss Universe Canada beauty queen Jenna Talackova will be allowed to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada competition on May 19 in Toronto.

The transgender 23-year-old was disqualified last week when the Miss Universe Organization discovered that the contestant from Vancouver was not a "naturally born female."

Talackova has identified as a female since the age of 4 and began hormone therapy at age 14.  She underwent gender reassignment surgery at 19.

The aspiring model turned to high-profile legal eagle Gloria Allred amid the firestorm of controversy and that move apparently paid off.

Donald Trump and his pageant organization have reversed their initial decision: "We will allow Jenna Talackova to compete in the 2012 Miss Universe Canada pageant provided she meets the legal gender recognition requirements of Canada, and the standards established by other international competitions."

A GLAAD spokesman responded, "The Miss Universe Organization made the right decision and has taken an important first step.  Now GLAAD urges the Organization to include all women and use this incident to speak out in support of the transgender community."

"So many women today do not have equal opportunities for employment, housing and safety simply because they are transgender.  The Miss Universe Organization should look to state non-discrimination laws and institutions including the Olympics, NCAA and The CW's America's Next Top Model, which do not discriminate against transgender women."

Check out more photos of Talackova below:

Are you thinking what we're thinking?  Miss Universe 2009 couldn't find anyone better than Heidi Montag to perform for the worldwide LIVE broadcast?  Decked out in sequined pants and matching bra, the blonde belted out her rendition of Body Language.

The performance was Heidi's first LIVE televised gig and we can't help but wonder what Donald Trump was thinking.  Thankfully, half of her performance was not visible to viewers, who were shown the Miss Universe contestants instead, hearing only the music.

Montag gave this quote before hitting the stage, "I think people don't know what to expect, and how can they?  It's my first performance live and it's in front of a half a billion eyes.  I'm very excited to show everyone what I am coming with."

Check out her performance below and decide for yourself.  Has she established herself as a bonafide performer or simply labeled herself a fool.  Do let us know what you think.
