miss utah marissa powell flubs question

Miss USA 2013 contestant Marissa Powell, representing Utah, totally botched a question presented to her by judge NeNe Leakes.

The 'Real Housewives of Atlanta' celeb asked: "A recent report shows that in 40 percent of American families with children, women are the primary earners yet they continue to earn less than men.  What does this say about society?"

Powell responded, "I think we can relate this back to education and how we are continuing to try to strive to -- figure out how to create jobs right now.  That is the biggest problem and, I think, especially the men are seen as the leaders of this, so we need to -- create education better so we can solve this problem."

All was not lost despite her epic fail.  The Salt Lake City native was undoubtedly disappointed with her third runner up placement but she did win Miss Photogenic.

Anticipating a surge of requests for network interviews, Marissa's Miss Utah 2013 Twitter page posted this message: "Please direct all media requests to Congratulations to Marissa for placing..."

Pageant owner Donald Trump weighed in with this tweet, "Trending story on Miss Utah is very unfair.  She simply lost her train of thought--could happen to anyone! @MissUSA @Miss Universe"

Check out her rambling response on the video below:

2013 miss usa erin brady poses

The newly-crowned 2013 Miss USA is 25-year-old Erin Brady of East Hampton, Connecticut.

A financial accountant who earned her degree at Central Connecticut State University, with a minor in criminal justice, Brady will raise awareness for breast and ovarian cancers, the organization's official cause.

The beauty queen will also advocate for children of addicts, citing a family struggle with alcoholism as her motivation.

Prior to being crowned, Miss Connecticut tweeted, "So far I have met @realDonaldTrum, spoke to @GiulianaRancic, and about to dance with @JonasBrothers.  What a day. #missusa"

She'll go on to represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow, Russia, on Nov. 9.    Both pageant organizations are jointly owned by NBC Universal and Donald Trump, in addition to the Miss Teen USA pageant.

Last year Olivia Culpo, Miss Rhode Island, was crowned the 2012 Miss USA.  She went on to win Miss Universe, a situation that elevated first runner up Nana Meriwether, Miss Maryland, to become Miss USA.

That said, this year's first runner up, Miss Alabama Mary Margaret McCord, could be tapped to take on the title in the event that Erin Brady is unable to complete her yearlong reign.

We've included photos of Erin Brady rocking the evening gown and swimsuit competition:

busted for drunken driving in michigan

Rima Fakih recently ended her reign as Miss USA and is now facing the possibility of a DUI conviction.  Police arrested the beauty queen early Saturday morning on suspicion of drunken driving in Highland Park, Michigan.

The 26-year-old Arab American attempted to fool her Twitter friends later the same day with a denial, "Let's clear things up now.  I'm NOT in Michigan and I'm NOT in jail! Wrong Fakih."

That tweet turned out to be a fabrication and was later removed, likely at the insistence of her lawyer, Doraid Elder, who confirmed the arrest on Sunday.

Elder indicated that Fakih has "not a single blemish" on her record up to this point and "this shouldn't be something that defines who she is."  He reiterated that his client is "very saddened and very apologetic for the situation that she's in right now."

The beauty queen gave up her crown in June, 2011, just days after the Miss Universe Organization complained that 2010 Miss USA had broken their pageant protocol by partying until 4 a.m. during the international competition.

Fakih's response, "It's not a big deal.  I'm not a party animal.  I took my job as Miss USA very seriously.  Sometimes, of course, I want to let it all go even though I'm a beauty queen."

Highland Park police were tight-lipped regarding details, indicating that inquiries will be answered by the Chief of Police on Monday.

heading on the miss universe 2011 is the new reigning miss usa 2

Miss California Alyssa Campanella was crowned Miss USA 2011 last night at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas.

The 21-year-old "history geek"grew up in New Jersey and represented that state as Miss New Jersey Teen USA in 2007.  We've put together two pageant photos showing her four year transformation in our gallery below.

The gorgeous redhead dished about her hair color during the telecast, admitting that she is naturally blonde but dyed her hair for a theater role while in high school and never went back.

Alyssa competed in and won the Miss California USA competition in November 2010.  She was heavily favored by Vegas oddsmakers to win the title of Miss USA.

The most popular feature of the Miss USA contest is the swimsuit competition.  Check out photos of all 51 contestants in their patriotic bikini swimwear.

Campanella will go on to compete for the title of Miss Universe 2011 in September.
