lisa niemi engaged

Actress and dancer Lisa Niemi is engaged to 58-year-old jeweler Albert DePrisco.  She lost her first husband, Patrick Swayze, to pancreatic cancer in September 2009.

Her rep confirmed, "Albert proposed to Lisa on Christmas Eve."

Niemi, 57, met her future husband at a birthday party and they have been dating for the past eighteen months.

She hit social media late Saturday to share the news, "I know I've been very private about this, but now - I am so very happy 2 share this news with you.  Very happy indeed."  She attached a link to the exclusive PEOPLE announcement.

A year after she lost her husband of 34 years, Lisa acknowledged:  "I would love to experience companionship love.  Absolutely.  I hope I'm not one of these women who never want to have another relationship.  But who knows, that's another bridge I'll cross when I come to it.  I may get there and go, I don't know.  but I like to think that I can."

During one of their last official red carpet appearances, in late 2007, Swayze and Niemi posed at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas during the grand opening of the resort and casino.

Kirstie Alley dropped a bombshell last night during a pre-taped interview with Entertainment Tonight reporter Chris Jacobs.  The actress revealed that she had an affair of the heart with the late Patrick Swayze.

Alley, 61, claims she and Swayze engaged in an "intense emotional affair" while filming the 1985 Civil War mini-series 'North and South.'

The actor was married at the time to Lisa Niemi, who remained his wife until his death Sept. 14, 2009.  Their union spanned 34 years.

Alley was then married to second husband, actor Parker Stevenson, whom she divorced in 1997.

Kirstie admits that it was not a physical affair, "But again, I think what we did was worse.  Because I think when you fall in love with someone when you're married, you jeopardize your own marriage and their marriage. It's doubly bad."

The 'DWTS: All-Star' celeb isn't sure if Niemi was aware of their strong connection, but she did ask Kirstie to deliver a eulogy at Swayze's 2009 funeral.

Kirstie told Barbara Walters recently that while filming 'Look Who's Talking' in 1989 with John Travola, she had to fight the urge to run off and marry him.  She claims, "He was the greatest love of my life."

Why is she suddenly unloading all of these secrets of the heart?  Her new tell-all 'The Art of Men' launches today.

patrick swayze dead at 57

Patrick Swayze died Monday, September 14, 2009.

Swayze's death comes  after a nearly two year battle with pancreatic cancer.

The 57-year-old actor's publicist released a statement Monday evening, saying, "Patrick Swayze passed away peacefully today with family at his side after facing the challenges of his illness for the last 20 months."

According to recent reports, Swayze had gone home to be with his family.

Swayze went public with his illness in early 2008 and underwent regular bouts of chemotherapy as he repeatedly denied tabloid reports that he was close to death.  In January 2009, he sat down for an interview with Barbara Walters, and was hospitalized shortly after with pneumonia.

Born in Houston, Texas, Swayze moved to New York to train as a professional ballet dancer before taking the lead role of Danny Zuko in the Broadway production of "Grease."  In 1983, he was cast in Francis Ford Coppola's cult hit "The Outsiders."  Swayze's role as Johnny Castle in 1987's "Dirty Dancing" catapulted him into the Hollywood A-list.  Three years later, he starred opposite Demi Moore in "Ghost."

In The Beast, Swayze plays the role of a veteran FBI agent who trains a rookie partner played by Travis Fimmel, who said: "He's an inspiration.  He makes the little things seem so not important."  All thirteen episodes of season one have been completed.

Swayze and his wife recently sat down with Barbara Walters to film a 20/20 special entitled Patrick Swayze: The Truth, which aired on ABC earlier this week.  The one hour program was a very candid discussion about how his illness has affected his family and he discussed the emotional and physical toll of the chemotherapy treatment.

point break sequel

Remember the early 90's surfing movie Point Break starring Patrick Swayze and Keanu Reeves? We may get another shot at seeing Swayze return to the big screen for the sequel.

The anticipated role is going to depend on whether Patrick's health permits. Swayze is suffering from pancreatic cancer which was diagnosed earlier this year.

The movie is due to be shot in Singapore and Indonesia and will take place 20 years after Swayze's character Bodhi disappeared into the waves. The rest of the cast has yet to be announced.

National Enquirer broke the news that Patrick Swayze has pancreatic cancer and Swayze's physician was quick to respond that his condition is not as grave as the tabloid made it out to be.

However, the reality remains that most pancreatic cancer patients die in 3-9 months after diagnosis, and only 4% live five years. This is the same cancer that took Michael Landon's life in 1991, 3 months after he held a press conference to tell the public about his battle with the disease.

I certainly hope Patrick beats the odds.
