budweisers puppy love wins ad meter

The Super Bowl XLVIII ad meter results are in at USA Today and the commercial that garnered the most favorable hype turned out to be Budweiser's Puppy Love.

A spunky pound pup with a cute personality has a special friendship with a Clydesdale horse in a beer ad that aired with just two minutes left in what USA Today described as "a dog of a game."

The pooch is adopted but keeps coming back to interact with his horse pal.

Other ads that scored well were Doritos' Cowboy Kid, Budweiser's Hero's Welcome, Doritos' Time Machine and Radio Shack's Phone Call.

According to the New York Times, "Most of the commercials that Fox broadcast nationally during Super Bowl XLVIII on Sunday sought to invoke fuzzy feelings that would warm the cockles of consumer hearts, if not MetLife Stadium.  The television and social media audiences were exhorted repeatedly to forget their troubles and put on a smiley face."

seahawks wins super bowl xlviii

The Seattle Seahawks were victorious against the Broncos on Sunday with a show of total domination that turned Super Bowl XLVIII into a one-sided game.

Quarterback Russell Wilson led his underdog team to a 43-8 annihilation of Peyton Manning and his Denver team.  The second year pro passed for 206 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first African-American quarterback to win a Super Bowl since Doug Williams led the Washington Redskins to victory in 1988.

Wilson recalled something his late father would frequently tell him, "He always used to tap me and say, 'Russ, why not you?'  So, I told the guys, 'Why not us?'"

Coach Pete Carroll said, "We tried to do a little bit of everything, but mostly we tried to play the football that we know how to play.  We got great play out of everyone."

Named MVP was Seahawks linebacker Malcolm Smith, who returned an interception for a 69 yard touchdown late in the second quarter.  He said afterward, "It's unbelievable.  I'm in shock.  We expected a great fight from them.  We kind of just dominated the game.  To be in the Super Bowl and dominate the game says a lot about our group."

Check out Smith's new commercial that was filmed shortly after he was named MVP.  As the Walt Disney theme song plays in the background, the star athlete grins as he exclaims, "I'm going to Disney World!"

bruno mars super bowl

Bruno Mars killed it with his Super Bowl XLVIII halftime performance Sunday night at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ.

The extravaganza began with a children's chorus singing a verse from the Mars' tune 'Billionaire' prior to the gold-suited singer's high energy drum solo.

During the 12-minute stage production, Bruno and the Red Hot Chili Peppers sang 'Locked Out of Heaven,' 'Treasure,' 'Runaway Baby' and 'Give it Away.'  The show ended with the dynamic entertainer singing his hit song 'Just the Way You Are.'

The four decade mash-up and dance demo included 60's Motown, 70's disco funk, 80's pop and modern day hip-hop.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers upped the anti with their frenzied movements. The 30 degree temperatures didn't stop Anthony Kiedis and Flea from shedding their shirts for the show.

Many are calling it one of the best halftime shows in years. Check out the video and let us know what you think:

super bowl xlviii qb matchup

After winning their respective conferences, the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks will compete in Super Bowl XLVIII at 5:30 p.m. on FOX at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Veteran quarterback Peyton Manning, 37, is looking for his second Super Bowl ring, while Seattle's quick-footed Russell Wilson, at age 25, is a relative newcomer with only two NFL seasons under his belt.

Manning's record-setting season earned him The Associated Press NFL MVP award Saturday night by a landslide 49 of 50 votes.  It was his fifth MVP award ... two more than any other player has ever earned.

He said, "I am humbled by this recognition and grateful to my family, Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, John Elway, John Fox and the entire Denver Broncos organization, and of course, my coaches and my teammates."

Because Broncos #18 was too busy to be on hand to accept the award, he dispatched his father Archie Manning to pick up his trophy.  The family patriarch was hold Peyton's son Marshall in his arms as he received the honor from two former MVP's, Joe Montana and Aaron Rodgers.

Wilson, a multi-talented athlete, played college baseball from 2008-2010 at NC State, and was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 2010 MLB Draft.  After two seasons of lackluster stats, he decided to pursue a career in football.  He transferred to the University of Wisconsin for the 2011 season and led the Badgers to a Big Teen title and the 2012 Rose Bowl, where they lost to the Oregon Ducks.

He signed a four-year, $2.99 million contract with the Seahawks on May 7, 2012.  At the end of the season he earned a bonus of $222,000 through the NFL's Performance-Based Pay program.   Seahawks #3 was named to the 2012 and 2013 Pro Bowl teams.

According to oddsmakers, Denver is a shoe-in to be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy at the end of tonight's contest.  Vegas is even taking betting action on how many times Manning will say "Omaha" during the biggest game of the year.

ellen grooves to beats music app

Ellen DeGeneres reveals a decidedly cool minute-long video on her talk show Thursday featuring a Super Bowl ad that she recently filmed for Beats Music.

The commercial is a modern take on the fairy tale The Three Bears, and shows her, in character as Goldilocks, sneaking into a luxury condo where she tries on several different headphones.

She soon discovers that the music is either too fast or too slow -- until she finally tries the Beats Music streaming app and discovers that it is just right.  It prompts her to bust a few of her signature dance moves.

Ellen told her audience, "I had so much fun shooting the commercial.  You're really not supposed to see it until the Super Bowl, but it's my birthday and my show, so I get to do what I want."

The comic used the opportunity to get in a plug for the Beats Music app, "I love them because they're changing the way you listen to music.  They have a new digital streaming service that brings you totally personalized music.  You can download the app on your phone, then hear any song at any time."

girls got guns in new godaddy ad

A new GoDaddy ad featuring racer Danica Patrick will air during the 2014 Super Bowl.   Suffice it to say, we'll be seeing her in a whole new light.

The NASCAR driver was asked to don a full body muscle suit for her thirteenth Super Bowl ad.  Her latest commercial also features a veritable army of body builders of the male persuasion.

When Danica first saw the muscle body suit that she was being asked to wear, she responded, "Holy crap!"

Patrick and her man posse take to the streets in mass on their way to a spray tanning salon.  As they press their flesh against the shop window, attractive shop owner Selena picks up her sprayer, a sure sign she is ready for the onslaught of new business.  She whispers, "It's Go Time."

Previous Super Bowl ads have shown Danica in a more sexual light but this year the brand has decided to go in a totally different direction.  GoDaddy's new CEO, Blake Irving acknowledges that previous ads were "provocative, sexy, crazy, gutsy."

They have decided this year to showcase the 'little guy' looking to compete with the 'big guys.'  In the new ad we see small business owner Selena welcoming the opportunity to work with her new clientele.

The Web-hosting company has purchased two 30-second slots that will allow them to showcase their new theme in each half of Super Bowl XLVIII on Fox.

Irving stated emphatically, "We've matured.  We've evolved.  Our new brand of Super Bowl commercials will make it crystal clear what we do and who we stand for.  We may be changing our approach, but as we've always said, we don't care what the critics think.  We are all about our customers."

full house men reunite for oikos ad

The male cast members of the iconic 80's-90's sitcom 'Full House' have teamed up for a reunion of sorts, filming a number of Dannon Oikos yogurt ads that will air during the Super Bowl on February 2.

In one teaser we see John Stamos, Dave Coulier and Bob Saget hanging out in the kitchen just like old times.  Uncle Jesse turns to Danny Tanner and Joey Gladstone and asks, "Don't you think it's time we all get our own places?"

They mull that over for a moment and respond in unison, "Naaah."

In another, Jesse is eating his Oikos as his decidedly attentive girlfriend looks on.  She removes a smudge of yogurt from his upper lip with her finger as she coos, "Hey, you've got something on your ... right here."

When he drops a dollop of Oikos on his pants front it seems likely that the gorgeous brunette in the scene will spring into action.

That doesn't happen because Danny and Joey suddenly appear in the kitchen armed with scrub brushes and cleaning buckets.  Bob Saget's character shouts, "Hey, take off your pants Greek boy." His sidekick adds, "You heard the man."  Danny repeats, "Take those pants off.  That's going to stain."

What we'd really like to see is a Super Bowl ad featuring the female cast members.  It isn't a stretch to imagine Candace Cameron, Jodie Sweetin, and Lori Loughlin jumping on board but it seems highly unlikely that Mary-Kate Olsen and her twin sister Ashley Olsen would be up for a reunion of any kind.

2013 top 10 talked about on facebook

If you thought Kim Kardashian or Miley Cyrus were among the most frequently talked about subjects by American's on Facebook in 2013 -- you would be mistaken.

While the reality star and the 'Wrecking Ball' singer were plastered all over social media, other topics of conversation ruled on Facebook this year.

It turns out that Facebook's 166 million U.S. users were far more interested in the Super Bowl than any other event over the past twelve months.  A close second was the government shutdown that lasted 16 days in October of this year.

The tragic bombings that took place during the Boston marathon in April resonated as well, a crime perpetrated by brothers who rigged two pressure cookers to explode.  The terrorist attack resulted in the death of one suspect and an unprecedented manhunt and eventual capture of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

The rest of the Top 10 included an international crisis, a dance revolution, the new head of the Roman Catholic Church, a bouncing baby boy who will one day be the King of England, a man who was acquitted of murdering an innocent Florida teenager, the lingering illness and death of South African's beloved anti-apartheid leader and the second inauguration of our nation's 44th POTUS.

2013 most talked about on facebook

Regarding America's Most Searched Celebrity, Beyonce overtook Kim Kardashian according to an annual report released by Bing.  The 'Keeping Up with the Kardashians' celeb beat Rihanna, Taylor Swift and Madonna -- but as we all know, nobody ever remembers who came in second best.  Sorry Kim...

Grammy Award-winning performer Bruno Mars and his band will headline the biggest gig on the planet, the Super Bowl XLVIII Halftime Show on Feb. 2, 2014.

An official statement on Mars' participation in the 2014 Super Bowl Halftime Show is set for Sunday, according to the the Associated Press.  The news outlet received the leaked information earlier today.

The 27-year-old entertainer will work his magic at the Pepsi-sponsored event at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  Last year Beyonce and Destiny's Child drew 104 million viewers.

Despite the fact that the regular NFL season has just kicked off, the hype is already beginning a full five months before Bruno and his band, The Holligans, take the stage to rock our socks off.

The group features Bruno on lead vocals and eight other members who lend support on keyboard, bass guitar, drums, trombone, saxophone, trumpet and piano.

Mars has been churning out hit singles with the help of his songwriting and record producing team, The Smeezingtons.  Philip Lawrence and Ari Levine have collaborated with Bruno to produce two consecutive Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 singles in 2010 and two more in 2013.

2013 top 3 super bowl ads

USA Today conducted their annual Super Bowl Ad Meter to determine the most popular commercials shown during last night's championship game between the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers and the results are official.

The big winner was a 60-second Anheuser-Busch ad spot where a magnificent Budweiser Clydesdale horse and his trainer are reunited.  It played in the third quarter and received the highest rating of the evening.

Edged out by a nose was Proctor & Gambles Tide commercial.  The 60-second 'Miracle Stain' ad aired during the final quarter and featured a guy who got pizza sauce on his shirt -- the red stain turned out to be a perfect likeness of Joe Montana.

Third place went to a feel good ad by the makers of Dodge RAM trucks that featured Paul Harvey's moving tribute extolling the virtues of farmers.  It also ran during the fourth quarter and was one of the longest commercials of the night, a whopping 120-seconds.
