the x factor

Simon Cowell will be the lone male judge on the third season of 'X Factor,' confirming yesterday that Kelly Rowland and Paulina Rubio will join veteran judge Demi Lovato this fall.

Simon announced, “It’s taken more than a decade, but I’m delighted to finally be on a panel with three girls (I think!). Paulina and Kelly both have great taste and massive experience in the music industry and together with Demi, this is going to be a fun panel. It just feels like the time to do something different.”

No stranger to the format, Kelly was a former judge on the UK version of the 'X Factor' series in 2011.

The Destiny's Child singer said, “I am very excited to be reuniting with Simon Cowell and THE X FACTOR family. It feels great to be able to take this journey here at home in the States!”

Rubio will bring a Latin influence this season, “I love THE X FACTOR! I can’t wait to find the next big music star here in America. I’m so thrilled to be part of the show as a judge. Simon, be careful what you wish for, let’s see if you are ready to handle me, empieza la fiesta, amigo!”

mario lopez gets contract extension

It was announced yesterday that half of last season's 'X Factor' co-hosting duo has been invited back for Season 3.  Mario Lopez will become a solo act.

Simon Cowell and his executive team opted to drop Khloe Kardashian--a decision that should come as a surprise to absolutely no-one.  Rumors regarding her show demise have been around since February following her lackluster performance during the last cycle.

Cowell talked about his decision, "Hosting a live show and keeping the judges - especially Demi - in line is not an easy job.  Mario is a pro and we are glad he's coming back."

The 'Extra' celeb tweeted Monday:

Season 3 will premiere in the Fall, with auditions already underway in L.A., New Orleans, Charleston, Long Island and Denver.

Regarding replacements to fill in for ousted judges Britney Spears and L.A. Reid ... that information is still a closely held secret.

la reid leaving x factor

Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid has announced that he will not be returning to 'The X Factor' for season three.

He told Access Hollywood, "I have decided that I will not return to The X Factor next year.  I have a company to run that I've kind of neglected."

It doesn't sound like he has many regrets about bailing on the reality competition, "It saddens me a little bit, but only a little bit."

He does admit that he will miss one of his fellow judges, "I love Simon. We have a great relationship.  We have fun together, we talk, we laugh, we do bad things, we're friends."

Though he didn't gush specifically about Britney Spears or Demi Lovato, he characterized the experience as "a nice break" from his day job.

As long as we're talking 'X Factor,' how do you think Khloe Kardashian has been handling her co-hosting duties with Mario Lopez?  She seems more than a little bit out of her element.  Your thoughts?

Last night on the season premiere of 'The X Factor' the world watched closely to see how Britney Spears would handle the pressure of the night.

Many of her fans have expressed concern over the last month that the stress might be too much for the pop princess to handle.

We took photos throughout the two-hour show to demonstrate that her perfect french manicure morphed into a chewed up mess by the end of the premiere evening.

The destruction of her nails probably took place over the span of several days as evidenced by four clothing changes during the show that aired last night.

Sitting next to Simon Cowell can't be easy ... even for $15 million.  We wish her well and suggest that she needs to visit a nail salon ASAP.

demi lovato joins x factor

Demi Lovato will join Britney Spears as a judge on "The X Factor" in the upcoming season.

The 19-year-old Disney star was joined by Spears as the announcement was made at the Fox network upfronts presentation at the Beacon Theatre in NYC just moments ago.

While Fox execs would not confirm earlier today whether or not Lovato and Spears would be in attendance at the Beacon Theatre, they stressed the need to make the series more "entertaining" and "exciting," something they believe a new jolt of talent at the judges' table can do.

"Well, we delivered," says Simon Cowell. "This year we are seriously going to kick butt."

The deal has been sealed.  After months of negotiating Britney Spears has finally agreed to a $15 million one-year contract with The X Factor.

Spears will be joining Simon Cowell and L.A. Reid in judges row.  She'll fill one of the seats warmed last season by Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger.

The deal was inked last week and a source close to the pop singer said, "There's been a lot of back and forth over the past few weeks as they negotiated the small details, but she's on. It's all completed and Britney is beyond excited."

This will be Brit's first network TV deal since her short-lived reality show Britney & Kevin: Chaotic.  That 2005 disaster was pulled after one month.

On the short list to become the fourth judge: Miley Cyrus and Demi Lovato.  Fox Network will make an official announcement on Monday, May 14.

Last week we revealed that Janet Jackson is in the running as an 'X Factor' judge.  The executive producer played it coy yesterday when questioned about pop diva Britney Spears also being on his short list.

Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were ousted from the show, leaving two seats to fill before season two kicks off.

Simon Cowell responded to questions about Spears, "Are we flattered that there could be interest? Yes.  I've learned a big lesson: keep your mouth shut. Don't give it all away."

L.A. Reid also kept tight-lipped about Britney, "The only thing you can count on is that we will likely have two girls."

Other names that have popped up in the mix are Mariah Carey and Fergie.

Cowell said,"There is a load of speculation.  Some true and some not true. It's true to say there are a lot more people who have entered the frame this year and we really waited to see who was going to contact us before we actually contacted people."

"We are in that place right now, which is a good place to be. We will meet a number of people over the next few weeks."

Before the shocking death of singer Whitney Houston it was being reported that the diva was being considered for a judges seat on The X Factor.  Now rumors are swirling that Janet Jackson will be on the panel when the new season kicks off.

Janet sat down for an interview this week with Anderson Cooper where she spoke about Whitney's passing, her new book and the death of Michael Jackson.  The show host also asked her about The X Factor - that video here.

She denied it, “Oh my God, no, I’m not a judge on The X Factor.” Andersen attempted to clarify her status, “You’re not currently a judge on The X Factor."  Jackson responded, “No, I am not.  But that’s all I really think I should say.”

The negotiations are reportedly still in the preliminary stages and Simon Cowell will be holding meetings this week with all potential judges.  He's tasked with replacing Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones.

Other celebs rumored to be in the running are singers Pink and Katy Perry.  Simon told Extra that he has worked with Perry in the past and said she is "hard - in a good way and she's feisty."

Is Janet too soft spoken for The X Factor?  Leave us a comment!

Jones, Scherzinger, Reid, Abdul, Cowell, Cole ...

FOX series The X Factor, currently in audition mode, is already undergoing a change within the judging ranks.  Former Pussycat Dolls singer Nicole Scherzinger has stepped in as a replacement for Cheryl Cole of Girls Aloud.

After reviewing the segments that have already been taped, the producers felt that the 27-year-old British entertainer's accent would be too difficult for American audiences to understand.  Another strike against her was the fact that she was not meshing well with fellow judge Paula Abdul.

Scherzinger, a 2010 mirror ball trophy winner on Dancing with the Stars, was already part of the production, serving as co-host with Steve Jones.  She has since been elevated to the position of judge.

Rounding out the judging panel are the show's creator Simon Cowell and record executive L.A. Reid.

Check out another photo of Cheryl and Paula.    Can you detect any signs of bad blood between these celebs?  Are Cole's claws out?
